I used Owens defence i had studied in a book with a strong player in a chess club i joined as a new player. they said after the game they didn't know what to do about it as it took them out of their comfort zone, which was nice. That's the goal after all haha.

The audio quality is a bit worse, and I really like seeing the lecturers talking. But if this format means that more videos will be coming each week, i'm okay with that

This is very fine - I like the podcast for just openings videos. Please keep up the filming format also :-) For the lectures. I would kindly ask for a cover of the Leningrad Dutch!!!

why isn't there a webcam anymore? I liked that. I mean it doesn't make the lecture worse but the webcam was just a nice feeling think. Still thanks for the good work you are doing for chess on youtube and in the internet in general.

Somehow I feel it´s easier for mo to follow (Makes me be "In the classroom" when it´s video. But as long as CCSCSL keeps posting great content, I´ll followe whatever the format.

I prefer this format. Content is what matters, not presentation. This way there are less distractions which always help in assimilating knowledge.

This is useful, as I have been scratching my head over how to deal with the e6/b6 system as white. As a whole, it’s called the English Defense, but that name just leads to confusion because of 1. c4 and both 1. e4 e6 and 1. e4 b6 have their own names (French Defense and Owen’s Defense, respectively). Because of the English Defense, I would argue that the French Defense should not be named as such until 2… d5, but what do I know?

Owens Defense/Hungarian Opening are sharp openings and winning strategies in my experience. I play a variation with double fianchettoed bishops for the long diagonals and maintain a strong defensive pawn line with few weaknesses that can easily hold while I develop my knights/bishops for attacks, it's highly flexible and easily supported. Hyper-Modern style wasn't mentioned in this video but I am convinced it is the best play style I have encountered to oppose the classical systems. My variation is just too defensive for standard players more often than not. As a Hyper Modern player I give my opponent the center in order to make him over extend his pieces while I exploit his weaknesses and regain the center after various well calculated exchanges. To control the center without pawns and instead using minor pieces is brilliant! I started with classical main lines then discovered Hyper-Modern theory through the Hungarian Opening accidentally, I didn't even know what Hyper Modern was until I was told by a random opponent. I am currently rated at 1114 on Chess.com, I know it's nothing to brag about and trust me I'm not. I have spent a great deal of time honing this system and more recently began studying as much as I can to counter the the various openings out there and have seen myself as a player go from struggling between high 900's /1000's to maintaining and advancing beyond my previous highest point. Scorpio1388 on Chess.com find me, add me, challenge me.

I play the Owen almost always vs 1e4. The first variation you showed has a name; it's a gambit and giving up that pawn by playing bishop d2. Black is slightly better but nothing to write home about

Your videos are great. One of the success criteria is the professional lecturer. Take away the face and replace it with a board will make the lecture more monotone and less entertaining, thus the quality drops. How much depends on the lecturer and his lecturing style. If this means the channel is able to produce and publish more lectures, go for it. If you wish to keep the publishing rate, but lower the quality, I can only say as Ben Finegold: BOOO, TL:DR new style is OK. Please keep the old style and use new style to increase the publishing rate.

Kinda pointless to make a video about an opening that is only played in order to avoid theory. I assume it would be like this: "Well, you play 1. d4 as white, ignore what your opponent does [always a good idea in chess], then play 2. Bf4, continue with some random moves that don't hang pawns or pieces and then offer a draw. Ok, this lesson is over. Next week we'll have a look at the Fool's Mate because one person requested that 100 times."

'Against a well prepared opponent you may run into trouble with the black pieces.' - On the contrary! In the unlikely event that someone prepares for my Owen's, there are so many resources available that it cannot possibly be a bad opening at all. No clear way to gain an obvious advantage and the dynamic balance often leads to a clarified equality.

As I am folliwing your sessions Jonathan, as well as Ben's, I would really appriciate switch back to the usual format.. can't even imagine a lesson with Ben in the new format.. terrible *shakes head*

Seems like White is constantly having to react to Black, therefore seems like a pretty good opening for Black. Obviously played well by White, means Black may be losing, but it means white has to know all the moves. Is that a fair assessment?

Why reward the spammers that post the same request every week?
@CatOnFire
@CatOnFire 8 жыл бұрын
The squeaky wheel gets the grease. If many people constantly request the same opening then that many people must really want to see said opening. By catering to those people they make the largest vocal slice of their viewer base happy. It is the best way to make the majority of their most dedicated viewers happier.
