I came to the same conclusion. Luz comes across as really invested in spending time with Amity, way more than her other friends. It's like the way she said "Maybe even Amity", spending time with Willow and Gus is cool, but spending time with Amity is something special.

I've been shipping them since I first saw 'I was a teenage abomination.', when it came out, Amity had such Draco vibes... You know! The 'Scarred Potter?'-kind of Draco vibes. And I actually thought Luz was *VERY* eager to impress Amity when I watched this episode, back then. Though, if we're right, then she didn't understand that she had a crush on her in this episode.

Yeah, it's interesting. There's not really any reason to think that based on the context here. Clearly, she wants to impress them and not embarrass herself. Her whole thing is that people back home though she was weird and lame, and she doesn't want to be made fun of. And after this episode, she doesn't show any interest in Amity romantically so I wonder if his stance will change.

i only noticed on my most recent rewatch that luz refers to both of the twins when saying “call me a library book because they were totally checking me out” and of course * spoilers * the s3 e1 scene where luz comes out to her mom :)

My theory is that the wand is set to cast a certain spell and it senses how much magic bile you are focusing through it and it applies the appropriate mixture of magic bile to correct for the spell. Which is why Amity was using it all day and it seemed to have 70%-80% battery left and then Luz drained it's batteries to 0 with only a couple spells.

Btw, there's 19 episodes in season 1 and 21 episodes in season 2. The 3rd season hasn't aired yet, but when it does it'll have 3 forty-ish minute episodes rather than a full season.

You mentioned something about Hollow Knight grubs in the background, but during King's portion in the intro there is actually a Knight plush in the pile of plushies he's on top of. It's on the right side of the screen.

Fun fact, this episode was accidentally leaked before Season 1B aired at all. It aired early due to it being aired in Russia. So when Season 1B finally started airing, a lot of us had already seen Adventures in the Elements episode. It was already fully on KZbin when it finally aired. 😂

I really love this episode. Easily in my top 3. We get character relationships, worldbuilding/lore, story progression, character growth and development, a funny and cute B-plot and just amazing backgrounds, scenery and locations. Plus the art and animation is just top-notch in this one.

This was the 1st episode where I really got a feel of "These side characters who aren't Luz, Eda or King" are interesting and I care about them. And its one of those episodes that gave us just enough information that we could understand how things work, make speculations, start theory crafting and start creating memes and fan art. And its also a screen shot that would often be edited to try and make click bait thumb nails for Season 2 episodes.

It feels kind of weird how the show introduced Amity and the twins as worse people. They didn't go through any change and in the next appearance they are just suddenly less bad.

@@marcelyuzuki6376 Trying to get her killed is still an overkill xD Besides it was Willow who cheated, Luz had no obligations towards Amity. Plus Amity was bullying Willow for no reason while they were alone with no witnesses. She wasn't violent like Boscha, but she was still putting Willow down.

We didn't get much screen time between just Willow and Amity but by Willow's reaction it's not the first time. Also 'half witch' is not just quirky nick name. It's a slur for disabled and opressed group. Like retarded. Oh but it Willow's fault, she should learn harder so Amity wouldn't have to call her retarded, isn't it? Amity put her down. She insulted her and with condescending tone told Willow how worthless she is. Amity was a bully.

What is that thumbnail lol Acronym: A WITCH LOSES *A* (yesterday was S) Eda was kinda right about learning nature first. Witches are born with their bile sacs, but Luz isn't a witch, and by proxy, doesn't have a bile sac. So for her to even begin using magic, she's gonna have to learn the nitty gritty stuff, the literal building blocks. Looks like the twins and Amity made up a bit, that's nice! Still have a way to go, but they're getting there. HOOTY YOU'RE HERE! I'll be completely honest with you, I didn't like him all that much, maybe a little, maybe more in S2, but seeing how much you love him, I thought, "Eh, he's pretty great honestly."

That blush could have been interpreted as Amity being embarrassed about wanting to start the bookclub with Luz. She blushes while saying, "As long as it's a secret club." She blushed earlier in the episode when Luz found the drawing Amity did of herself with one of the book characters, which also seemed to be more because of embarrassment.

I hope you don't consider this a spoiler, but the reason for Luz's behavior here is that she's very socially awkward and afraid of embarrassing herself because kids back home would bully her for being weird. Like Luz said in the previous episode they were together, she really wanted to befriend Amity and now that they're on better terms she's afraid of screwing it up.

Her behavior in this episode was left open to interpretation. Like, yeah she's socially awkward and afraid of embarrassment, but she doesn't act that way around Willow and Gus. She did act similarly when she was trying to impress Ed and Em in the library episode, though. It could be because Amity's more popular and standoffish, or it could be for the reason Mikey was interpreting it as. Luz could also have a crush and just not be consciously aware of it.

@@JNDReacts I took it more as her seeing the Blights as "the cool kids" whereas Willow and Gus were already outcasts like her. It's why she also got along with Viney and Jerbo. Why there wasn't a single did she got along with in Gravesfield, though, I have no idea.

@@Fuzunga Ok, well she didn't act awkward around Boscha or Skara or any of the other kids in the Grudgby match. And there's something else that makes the Blight kids different than the other kids. Spoilers below: At one point or another Luz has been attracted to all three of them. That was the point I was trying to make in my other comment. The blushes at Ed and Em in 1x07 were meant to establish that Luz is bi, that she was blushing because she found them both attractive. And obviously she's attracted to her now-girlfriend. I think it's totally fair to assume that Luz had a crush on Amity for a while in Season 1, but she just wasn't aware that's what she was feeling. Her blushing in Season 2, to me, is the point where she finally realizes she has a crush.

Always be careful with spoilers, people get way too excited for you too catch up, one thing I'd like to say is that whatever you were thinking about luz having a crush is not what you were thinking, you'll understand more as the show goes on and I wish I could explain in more detail but you'll just have to wait and see!
