Honest to god, that moment of pure, horrified quietness after seeing what Belos did to those witches on the Knee might be one of the most underrated moments in the show. I love when a piece of media knows how to utilize silence to great effect. Oftentimes, choosing to say nothing can be just as powerful, if not more so, than choosing to say something

When Belos plays Undertale, he always goes for the genocide run. Just his natural instinct. But seriously, every moment in this show that might otherwise be used to humanize him, or make him at least partially sympathetic, they instead double down on his callous, malicious, murderous nature. He is a creature of pure calculation and hate, and every time you scratch the surface, there's just another layer of the same. I've rarely seen a show so totally committed to genuinely frightening evil. Frightening because we recognize in him the face of religious extremism, the face of something we see in our own lives. 400+ years later Phillip is alive and well, not only on the boiling isles, but in our own neighborhoods, and sometimes sitting across the table from us at family gatherings. I deeply respect the show's refusal to compromise. There is no truce to be had with people like Phillip, because for them it is all or nothing. To him, the genocide of the Boiling Isles is not a side effect of a greater goal; it is the goal. The hate doesn't get purer than that. He is a legitimate contender for best Disney villain ever simply for the base, banal purity of his malice, and certainly one of the most completely, non-comedically chilling.

On a lighter note, though, Raine's deception is one of the more perfect plot twists I've ever seen. It's set up well in advance, makes perfect sense, and still nobody saw it coming. When Eda was talking them up at the beginning, calling them the kick-buttiest witch of all time, it turns out that she wasn't exaggerating.

The reveal of Raine's Gambit was so dang badass. And if you go back to Follies at the Coven's Day Parade, you can see Raine quietly doing the SAME whistling spell when Terra gave them the amnesia potion. They were NEVER under Terra's control! Just the Biggest of Big Brain moves. While I liked Raine pretty well before, their actions in this episode shot them up to one of my absolute favorites n this show

Okay, a few things; 1. I don't think it's the Glyphs themselves, or even the fact that he tattooed them into his skin, so much as it is the MAGIC they draw in. We saw in S1E13 ("The First Day") that the Basilisk couldn't handle magic from the Glyphs. Since all magic has the same root in the Isles, the only thing I can figure is that it was too much magic, or the magic was too pure, no dilution from circulating with Witch blood (The bile sac that a Witch's magic comes from is attached to their heart, after all). And since Phil's been using magic to stay alive for somewhere around 400 years now, I can guess he's taken a lot of it in, with little time in between consumption. Palisman magic at that, grown and carved straight from the Titan. That much pure magic over that long a period of time, it's no wonder he's turning to mud. 2. Like I said, he's been alive for 400 years, and it looks like he started working on Grimwalkers relatively early on. And if he really did kill all of them? He's effectively brought back and killed his brother again and again, for over four centuries. *WARNING, KING'S TIDE SPOILERS AHEAD* And looking at a scene from King's Tide? It brings to mind that secret message from S1, "A curse of feathers and mud, a betrayal of blood." Grimwalkers are raised from a mud pit, and Phil killed his brother. And then raised him from the dead, only to kill him again, and again, and again. Philip cursed himself, AND his brother. Even if there was no scroll involved, he cursed them both.

I also love when eclipses are used in media. I've not been lucky enough to witness a total eclipse, but there was a partial (3/4 or so) eclipse visible in Ohio when I was visiting Cedar Point a few years back, and it was absolutely surreal to see a crescent sun through the clouds, while the shadows were eerily sharp. I can understand why they so often are tied to magic!

Using Glyphs wasn't the thing that goop-ified Belos, it was CARVING glyphs onto himself, combined with absorbing palismen.

Well, the Grimwalker recipe requires a "Bone of Ortet", and if I remember my anatomy lessons correctly, there are 186 bones in the adult human body. That's a lot of chances and a lot of Grimwalkers

Someone needs to tell Raine that the whole pushing someone you love away for their own protection never works and just causes everyone misery. Also, do they seriously think anything will keep Eda from jumping into the fight? She's Eda the Owl Lady for Titan's sake! Trouble might actually be her middle name.

My pet theory: in Hollow Mind when Eda received the potion flowers, because she would recognise Raine's handwriting they got Darius to write the note from the "secret admirer." Darius seethed the whole time

I’ll be honest, this show isn’t my cup of tea but I’m still watching it because I didn’t want to be one of those people who says “it sucks” when they haven’t actually watched it. The other reasons I’m watching is because of Amity, and Hunter who is slowly becoming one of my favorite characters along with Gus. Hollow Mind is such a great episode.
