It's what I call "best movie ever syndrome", essentially if you ask several people to make a movie pitch and there are no rules or restrictions, and they are trying to make the greatest movie of all time, people will tend to all make the same movie. It'll have Santa Claus riding a unicorn through time and explosions everywhere, and tons of references to modern pop culture icons (like popular music 'artists' or Iron Man or something). In the end its a messy story with every cool or "lol so random" element thrown in haphazardly. Meanwhile if you ask people to make the best movie ever, but have rules and guidelines to follow, people will tend to be more creative and more likely to make movies distinct from each other. What I'm getting at is the unlimited element of the sci-fi genre makes Farzar far more creatively bankrupt. They don't have to be people with jobs, they could be any type of creature you could ever conceive, so of course its poo people. Even the banana people are a clear sign of this as bananas are the most commonly anthropomorphized fruit (think of the peanut butter jelly meme from the early years of KZbin with the dancing banana, or more recently the Minions obsession with bananas while also somewhat resembling stubby bananas themselves, I'm sure there is more examples).

It doesn't matter if I can't relate to the character's situation if who they are at heart is relatable. I can't 100% relate to the situation of characters in star trek or star wars but I CAN relate to their emotions because at the end of the day who they are, are people. The Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared series is a perfect example of this. The first episode “Jobs” has moments of shock/gore in it, but not only are they spread throughout the episode, but they’re all used in different ways to tell the joke. Like the scene at the end where Yellow Guy gets his hand mangled in a machine was not only well foreshadowed in the episode, but it plays off your expectations as despite the rest of the background characters preparing for an accident to happen their whole lives, they, are actually overjoyed when it finally does as it “reminds them they’re not in an accident” and “makes them feel so alive!” And cheering yellow guy on. We then also have the boss who when prompted to “do something”, fires the yellow guy as its basically the only thing he knows how to do. It takes the shock and violence of the hand mangling, and not only is it so extreme it catches you off guard, but it finds ways to build upon and subvert the situation with the rest of the cast too

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Brickleberry. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of advanced bioscience most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Malloy's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Brickleberry truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Steve's incredibly deformed penis, which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Waco O' Guinn and Roger Black's collective geniuses unfold themselves on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Malloy tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. I don't know what's more ridiculous; the idea that people think these shows are peak comedy, or that they can't imagine someone not enjoying it, that it would require them being part of a political movement to dislike it. It's barely even humor. If I got up on stage in front of these people and just said "Hey, everybody. The other day, a stupid, fat, ugly man farted and it was gross," would they all die laughing and persecute anyone who didn't?

@hatman48182 жыл бұрын
@Ro :D As much of a moron that guy is, I totally agree in that respect... To be fair to him, as someone who writes long comments with a sailor mouth because that's just how I talk IRL after years on the flightline in the military... On KZbin, Facebook, etc, one or two too many uncensored curse words in a long comment will result in your comment deleted automatically the second you hit "reply". I habitually censor myself anymore for that reason. Sometimes its not even curse words, sometimes literally elementary school insult words (stupid, for example, Ive found myself censoring that out of habit once in a while), or words associated with touchy subjects, are enough to set it off. The censor algorithm also tailors to individual groups, on FB at least. In particularly large FB groups, anything longer than a sentence or two, even when it contains zero insults or trigger words, and is literally just normal conversation about, idk, cars or something, even then the censor algorithm can auto flag and hide your comment as "potentially harmful". Then you gotta go personally contact a mod to have it reinstated. I think what happens is, when an FB group gets to be like 25-50k people, that group deals with so much spam and flame wars, that the learning AI starts even seeing common words like "the" as potentially offensive as it notices that word present in nearly everything ever reported, resulting in these bafflingly nonsensical censors where you cant even tell what word p@ssed the robot off this time. Its annoying. I dont like being treated like a child, or having to act like those around me are all children. Or walk on eggshells around a f@#$ing robot. But thats the digital space we live in anymore, everything is babyproofed in the hopes it makes somebody else less offended. Im sure there are plenty PLENTY more vitriolic comments from people like that which dont make it past the censor bots to getting posted for us to read... Personally, I think thats a travesty, because people like that are so f@#$ing hilarious to make fun of for their self evident stupidity. Meanwhile, youtube doesnt care one iota about the spam bots rampaging through every comments section with scammy youtube links.

There's an art to edgy or dark humor. I think a lot of people who work on adult animated comedy shows understand that other shows had controversial or darker elements, but don't always really get the idea that the gross, edgy, dark, etc. elements aren't the comedy by themselves. It's not that those things can't be funny, it's that just presenting something fucked up isn't inherently funny on its own. You still need to actually craft a joke around it.
@michaeliv284 Жыл бұрын
An example of good dark humour comes from early Spongebob, the bit where Mr Krabs asked about *Mr* Puff, then we see a blowfish light. Quick, simple, gets the idea across and doesn't rely on stuff that you'd have to censor. But that'd require talent, just show literal shit and old people having kinky sex, THATS GOLD(!)
