This cuts the current satire "The Royals" a million ways to Sunday. I've watched the whole thing countless times and am delighted to find it again. Terrific acting, subtle satire. Brilliant and hilarious.

Thank you for sharing - However, I find it hard to believe that a Price would be so surprised to become the new King. He would've been groomed since birth that this was his destiny and while maybe he'd be 'set back' by the death of his father it's not as though he shouldn't have expected it. Maybe the next episode will improve but so far this is crap.

In the late 1940s-early 1950s, whenever the then Princess Elizabeth traveled abroad (outside the United Kingdom) she was well-aware of her father's ill health and though it might have seemed calculated to a non-royal person, always packed a suitcase full of black mourning clothes. This included her trip to South Africa with Prince Philip, where they were staying at Treetops Hotel and observing the wild animals, when they received news of the death of the king. Though "The Palace" is fictional, Richard's father is regarded as being in good physical condition and expected to live for at least 20 years more. The present Queen was born in 1926 and her heir apparent, Prince Charles was born in 1948, and is now nearly 20 years older than Edward the Seventh was when he inherited the throne in 1901 after HIS mother's reign of 63 years. The fictional Richard is only in his early 20s and very immature, not to mention unprepared for the rigors of constitutional monarchy.

you know, if you head into watching this with the knowledge that it's going to be very unrealistic, and it's just a bit of fun, it's much more enjoyable! if you try to think of it as them saying this is how it really is, you'll hate it. if you see it as poking fun and playing around, it's much better.

+sprinklefriend This "parallel universe" idea is very weak compared with the novel "The Queen and I" where the UK becomes a republic and the Royal Family has to live in Council flats. The novel is hilarious, this, not so much.

@MoniqueNR9 жыл бұрын
When was this filmed?
@sprinklefriend9 жыл бұрын
+Monique Robinson this aired in 2008... so probably filmed either early 2008 or during 2007. Sophie Winkleman, the girl who plays Princess Eleanor, actually married Lord Frederick Windsor in 2009, and this was the year before that. Lord Frederick Windsor is the son of Prince Michael of Kent, who is first cousin to the Queen, so he's her first cousin once removed. just a few weeks after Prince George was born, Sophie & Frederick welcomed a little girl - Maud Elizabeth Daphne Marina Windsor - so she is the mother of a (distant) member of the royal family. Maud was baptized in the same gown as Prince George & Princess Charlotte, and is their third cousin once removed (William is her third cousin; Frederick is a second cousin to Prince Charles). according to reports, they are expecting their second child any day now! funny how she played a princess, then joined the REAL royal family!

Why do writers try to rewrite history in such a way it conforms to modern day politically correct narratives? Is it to indoctrinate the young into believing something inaccurate? Those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it. Teach the real history and hopefully our young can learn of the real mistakes. Hopefully our young will learn the ignorance of modern day writers and never recreate their politically correct agenda.
@vagabondwastrel23616 жыл бұрын
Well mostly because media has been taken over by yellow propaganda when the communists took over the unions. Journalists who are ethical are very few and what are left are activists who don't mind a lesser paycheck to spread their ideology.
@randalthor66706 жыл бұрын
I am not going to get into the communist/journalists aspect of this, as mentioned by Vagabond, but I do have a comment on the statement: "Those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it." If you apply the scientific method to this statement, it doesn't seem to be true. Because, we have entire schools dedicated to teaching history, yet we keep repeating it. Of course, humans are fallible and all that, but I just don't think this statement is necessarily true. I am not saying that I know the way to keep us from repeating history, just that knowing it might actually be why we repeat it. Not sure, just a theory.
@vagabondwastrel23616 жыл бұрын
You say you are not going to get into the communist aspect but then you quote Carl Marx.(just joking but he is the source of "those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it"

I agree wholeheartedly, but there is something to be said for respecting what little privacy is left to the Windsors. "The Palace" is, after all, about a fictional royal family, and a particularly dysfunctional one somewhat reminiscent of Shakespearean tragedy. "Titus Andronicus" in particular, Eleanor recalling Tamora and her private secretary as Aaron the Moor....The series which offended me most was "Henry the Eighth," and their excuse was that modern audiences would be confused if two Princess Marys were among the characters. Not only that, they married Princess Margaret to the King of Portugal, when in fact she was the wife first of James the Fourth of Scotland. Her younger sister, Mary, was married first to Louis the King of France, then to Charles Brandon. Mary, daughter of Henry the 8th, was married to her mother (Katherine of Aragon's) great-nephew, Philip of Spain.
