Played our first game of Castles last night. Turns out that I needn’t of worried about how my ten year old would handle the pricing phase. She took to it straight away and won by miles! She says it’s her favourite game now, pushing Small World of the top spot.

I found the best approach is not to over think it, just do it

Palace is a tricky one for me. I think I went in expecting a slightly different game, due to playing Suburbia and Castles before hand. Its very different mechanically from those two games, and far more of a brain burner. It certainly has its pro's and I enjoyed it, but the first playthrough was quite overwhelming and I came dead last. Won my 2nd game after a serious rethink about the game. So, what's your favourite Ted Alspach. I'd say mine is probably suburbia with the first expansion.

Nice vid. As I talked about in our review, the "point salad" scoring system in Palace is incredibly well-thought out, interesting, and gives numerous strategic paths to victory... and is also completely overwhelming to my poor brain, lol. If pressed for an answer, I think I'd agree that Suburbia is my fav Alspach creation. Have you tried out Colony? A bit different, but definitely has it's good points- although it's different enough from Castles/Suburbia/Palace that I wouldn't really call it part of the "trilogy".

I've seen colony, but not played it. Did not click it was a Ted Alspach game. The quick scan of it i did reminded me of alien frontier and/or Machi Kiro.

Alspach co-designed it. Much better than Machi Koro IMO. Less "luck", much more strategic choice. It's on our review list, should get to it soon. Good work on the channel, btw, coming along nicely.
