shield bash and bone spears have perfect synergy, since shield bash also guarantees a crushing hit every 5 hits and bonespear has 5 charges. that's why it felt so suspiciously consistent :P

random tip, at the blacksmith, you could have clicked on the anvil even though you had full armor and it would have healed the heart you sacrificed right before that. 12:30

paladin is probably my favorite class in the game, and carried me on my first c16 run. The passive is solid and starting out with the full paladin set just makes you so much more survivable. Also just as a side note, while it can use up inventory slots, which is a trade-off, you can always re-equip the paladin shield or helmet (whichever you've replaced) before going down a floor to trigger the set bonus as it doesn't require attunement. essentially letting you trade an inventory spot for a full armor repair each floor if you find a really good shield or helmet.

The scaling on that fan of knives thing is crazy. It starts taking down 50% of a room's total HP the first time you dash for any reason.
