The amazing thing to me is that back when these chicks were around I loved this type of stuff so much (still do). But back then there was practically no way to find out about music that wasn't top-40. It was either 1) what your college radio station played or 2) what was in The Trouser Press (alternative music reviews). 25 years after the fact you can yutube or wiki up anything.

Those live shows were so tremendous. Paula knew she was a rock star, so you were standing in front of the hottest chick in Los Angeles who was convinced she was the Chuck Berry of the mid-80's. So many lessons were learned just from Paula's attitude onstage.

Who knew that Silvery Moon On La Cienega had such cool echo plexes back in late 1984??

I saw them in S.F. The organ player was staring me down HARD. I was too shy to do anything about it.

I was thinking of the instrumental demo for "I'm Your Girl" that wound up on the "Stop Pretending" album. My friend got if off the radio, and I distributed it for years by mail before THE INTERNET started. I wonder what ever happened to it?

Yeah, Paula must've liked this song too because she included it over two more incarnations of the group.

When was this recorded. Are they still touring and playing anywhere now? This song should have been a big hit, this is rocking.

for starters... the picture you're using... that's the wrong line up it was Paula/Gwynne/Bambi/Casey on this record!
@Pimp-Master3 жыл бұрын
He probably thought it was that line up because the record sounds so good still.

i know; super talented but lost control; my friend and i who were from OC saw them in LA; LA was such a shithole back in the 80s.

This sound is SO 1966! Think Girl version of Question Mark and the Mysterions, 96 Tears. IMO a real mile stone in 60's Pop Rock before it all went Psychedelic. (Turn on, tune in, drop out. it ruined 60's music -not all, but- for the most part.)

This is a different version to the version on the LP stop pretending. This version was recorded and released in 83’ on their E.P on moxie records I’m Here I’m Gone with Paula Pierce (Lead Guitar, Lead Vocals) Gwynne Kahn (Keyboards, Background Vocals) Bambi Conway/Deborah Mendoza (Bass, Background Vocals) Casey Gomez (Drums, Background Vocals)

I can guarantee that indy garage records did not sound like this during the '80's. It does sound great because Paula was a genius. These guys weren't signed to a big label until mid 1986, then the band's mission fell apart. Well, that's what big labels do; they change your unique sound into a bland commercial output. That's all they know how to do unless someone stands up to their bullshit, (like a Bob Dylan or Jefferson Airplane) and says "Look, we gave you the record and that's it. You don't want to release it, that's not our problem."

What julie plays?
@xPrincessPandora4 жыл бұрын
Luiza Andrade Julie plays bass but she wasn't on this song though she was in the band from 1984 to mid 1985 then was replaced by Kim Shattuck. The bass player on this song was Bambi Conway
