People don't even notice the difference between the whistle going and Trossard kicking it, he was already in the process of kicking it before the whistle went and he couldnt stop. And if you watch the direction of the kick, it was into the space where Martinelli was running into. He genuinely doesnt do it on purpose. And Michael Oliver who last season "didnt want to impact the game" when Kovacic took out both Rice and Odegaard with dangerous tackles, now cant give Trossard the benefit of the doubt and ruins this game for us

Trossard one shouldnt even have happened coz 6 mins added time and that was in the 8th minute and Arsenal headed the ball out of the box and the whistle should have blown there. Rice kicked the ball without the outside of his right foot. Rice doesnt have a weird tick flicking his right foot out. He walks normally Also the rule is supposed to be the same for everyone. As a Liverpool fan, we have been constantly been hit by ridiculous calls for a number of years. Now that Arsenal has blossomed into a really sharp title challenging team over the recent 2-3 years, the number of bizarrely bad calls against the Gunners has steadily gone up and up and up. Last season it was Liverpool who got hammered with incorrect red cards at season start. They said "well, the rules are the rules". Later in the season we see City make much worse challenges, and suddenly it is nothing but "oh, well not every foul where you chop a man down in the box really needs to be whistled", "not every time you studs a man in the back of the leg and not get close to ball is a booking". Start of this season, Arsenal is getting the "well, the rules are the rules" treatment. Meanwhile Haaland is chucking footballs at people's heads and going bananas. It is not a coincidence. It is a pattern. Corruption is not just passing envelopes of cash. Covering up for clear cut wrong calls by your mates is also a kind of corruption -- I am looking at you Howard Webb.

Trossard wasn’t stupid. If that’s the case then Szoboszlai was stupid for kicking the ball away. Emotions are always gonna be high during a high stakes game. Players are gonna do things they usually wouldn’t do subconsciously. It’s up to the referee to apply common sense. Not every time letter of the law. That in itself is extremely stupid. The referees aren’t even consistent with this letter of the law thing because they subconsciously know it’s ridiculous. If the letter of the law was applied to the Arsenal-Utd rivalry of OLD then both teams would have only be left with goalkeepers because of the red cards. Common sense is needed. Things like that should only be given where the referee is left with zero choice but to give it. Find some compromise.

Consistency is practically impossible to achieve considering most incidents are pretty unique and it is one person's opinion in a split second moment. What isn't impossible to achieve is common sense. Would anyone have been that bothered had Michael Oliver gone over to Trossard and COMMUNICATED a final warning? It keeps 11v11 while putting the ball in the players court, it's now up to him to make sure he toes the line. Personally I think for a second yellow card the threshold needs to be higher anyway given the advantage you get from having an extra man. You have to add context to all of these instances though... Doku is kicking it towards the defender going to take the free kick, Pedro was down 1-0 in the game, Szoboslai was in a crossing motion and was also 1-0 down. If you kick the ball away from a restart with the clear intention of delaying the game while tied or winning they will card you. Also Trossard led with his shoulder and barged through Silva, not even trying to head the ball. That is an idiotic thing to be doing and kicking it away

If there was consistency there would be clarity. But this has happened so many times this season and only 4 cards have been handed out, 3 of them to Arsenal, 2 of them which resulted in a sending off and both games Arsenal were down to 10 men and forced to defend their lead rather than go forward and search for more goals.
