I love scenes I can't find any where else. Its as if they're crawling into a vault of secret thoughts. Hart quoting Kinsfield talking about being the living extension of history. Priceless. I can't think of anywhere else that has a scene remotely close to that. Love it [Music's subtle and great too]

I came here to see "the red set room" scene again, a favorite. Just a little scene but very effective in revealing the mysterious power that Ancient Wisdom sometimes conveys. Props to Director James Bridges, Cinematographer Gordon Willis (who, as in this scene, used the contrast between dark and light so effectively in Godfather I and II) Composer John Williams (pre-Jaws) and Production Designer George Jenkins. It all feels like Hart and Ford have invaded the mind of eternity. Chills!

I just realized that part of the reason why The Paper Chase was such an iconic Novel was because it showed a "Side" to Harvard that most people didn't know about. Where it was glamourized in "Love Story" & "Oliver's Story" as well as "The Last Convertible" by Anton Myer it showed that not everyone was born with a Silver Spoon. Hart was more "Blue Collar" but he showed he was just as good as the others.

Give Toombs his props. He doesn't mind working a "Regular" Job as a Campus Cafeteria Cashier while waiting for his Big Break.

"After all, I am almost a living extension of the old judges. Where would they be without me? I carry in my mind the cases they wrote. Where the hell would they be if it wasn't for me? Who would hang their pictures if there were no law students? It's hard being a living extension of tradition."

The "red set room" is actually part of U of Toronto's Sigmund Samuel library....I remember going there as an undergrad in the 80s and realising that they were the same room...

Yeah, apparently the hotel scene near the end of the movie was filmed in Toronto as well.

I just realized that 45 Years ago Anderson, Bell, Ford, and O'Connor would all graduate. Hart would be the Wizard of Contracts, Bell would be a Divorce Lawyer going on about property. Ford will work on Wall Street, and Anderson would be a good lawyer himself with a structured routine while O'Connor will stay in Boston and work in a Medium Law Firm.

God Kevin was so lucky that the others didn't compare notes about how well they did. When Kevin talked about Practice Exams and doing a Tutorial it was a silent plea for help but the others didn't see it like that.

Maybe someone today is crawling in an attic now looking at Hart’s notes. Actually more time has past from 1973 to 2024 then 1927 to 1973.

That stadium scene between Hart and Susan must've been a bitch to write, direct, act. Nothing at all is going on, and yet they whip it into a nice little confrontation. I wonder how it looked in the novel...

Isn't it a blip how The Fellow is using The Phone. By today's standards he would have talked to his Friend on his own Cell Phone, or Chatted with him through Skype or even Zoom.

Moss was contradictory. First he asks if Kevin bought any samples of his work and when Kevin tells him he bought some Notes he's told that his "Notes" don't mean a thing.

@@goback3spaces Ha! Ha! I found Moss quite arrogant. As for the Folks in The Boarding House.they wouldn't be top drafts for Fortune 500 Law Firms. They'd Be "Street" Lawyers like Jake Brigance was in a Time To Kill or even Rudy Baylor was in The Rainmaker. They would rent an Office, hang their Shingle out and practice law in their own way. Here's another fun fact I discovered. Tears For Fears The UK Pop Duo filmed "Head Over Heels" at The University Of Toronto, and The Librarian was actually a Model.

Rats, Part 7 has the scenes where Kingsfield challenges Hart to do some research on a supplement to his treatise. Hart fails and gets into an argument with Susan at the supermarket about how Hart thinks Kingsfield might flunk him. That's one of my favorite scenes.

PS. If not the scene, the quotes from that scene would be great!

nudist1033, don't you notice that when Hart goes over to Kevin's House, he doesn't try to cheer Kevin up by telling him about his mistakes. He couldn't finish The Term Paper, and how he was humiliated on The First Day Of School. Personally speaking, I don't think Kevin really wanted to be a Lawyer.

Can anyone help me to find the scene where we first see Kevin having difficulty in class, and protests "I have a photographic memory!" to which Kingsfield makes a scathing comment on how little use his photographic memory is. I wanted to share it with my class, as we are discussing the differences between rote learning and deep learning, and developing critical thinking skills.

Go to Part 4, that may help you. Moss sucked as a Tutor. Sometimes I wonder if Kevin was Dyslexic.

I'm sorry but Moss isnt' a very good tutor. He should have sat with Kevin and checked out his Notes, how he listens in Kingfield's Class etc. Also give him "Pointers" on how he organizes himself. Also there are times where I wonder if Kevin was Dyslexic or suffered from ADD or even Disgraphia that Joey Jeremiah had on Degrassi.
