I've listened to The Paper Kites since 2011 and honestly, they are the only band who makes this type of music and I actually like it. I can certainly appreciate the beauty in this type of folk music, but usually, the music of this genre is just too slow and distantly melancholy for me. It just drags and it's like a whisper; barely there and hard to listen to. But THIS? This is something entirely new. Different. This is full of life and energy and mystery and it's like a hidden present behind the tree that I can barely see but can't wait to dig up and unwrap. It's slow but engulfing and melancholy but intricately intimate. Absolutely enchanting.

The song is kind of in three parts (three verses) The first one being a confession met with grace, the second one being a flashback to time spend apart, the third being the confrontation and seeing each other again. The line a shot of neon crimson to the brain is sort of saying - ‘well, at least I know I’m still alive’.
