A few years ago I was painting very detailed, realistic, florals and I learned a lot about water usage, using good paper, kinds of brushes etc. and I’m glad for that learning experience. But I soon realized I didn’t want to do the uber detailed stuff anymore. I wanted something relaxing and meditative. Your process suits me perfectly. Plus I enjoy your humor and wisdom so much! My 46 th. I only write some statements you made: splodges are us. Not trying hard of doing something particular. Art is to make you relaxed not terrified. Don't try to control, go with the flow. Do whatever comes to mind. Don't look at it, just do it . Don't judge yourself. I always liked your birds. In fact my first drawing and tutorial I watched was a bird tutorial. Okay, second comment 🙃🙃🙃 For almost all of my life I have said that I can’t draw a stick figure so why even try painting! Now I’m getting up there in years, have essential tremor (makes you shake) and I decide to paint.. go figure! The E.T. robs me of my ability to have free flowing strokes but, as things sometimes turn out, not of my ability to paint! Who would have guessed? Yes, I have to paint slowly and deliberately but it happens, and sometimes it’s not at all bad (by my standards) and like you said, who cares what others say!! I could be jealous but that’s just not fun and I choose to live these years having fun, maybe slowly, but still fun!! I think that you have helped so so many people get going in watercolor and you probably don’t even realize the joy that you’ve given!! Thank you! 💕

Hi Donna and thanks so much for sharing your thoughts about starting watercolor later in life. Lots of ladies (it’s about 90% females…) have shared how the hobby has brought them joy when perhaps some other activities are now denied them. I’m sorry to hear that you have ET, but the plus is that you can incorporate that into your work sometimes - a shaky line is quite charming in the effect it can have, and there are a couple of KZbin creators who have tremor and still create. Diane, this Autumn painting with the rich colors makes me so happy! I love how you pulled the colors out. The Kuretake sets make that so easy! I’ll enjoy your fall colors as where I live in Phoenix AZ we don’t really have fall! Most of our trees stay green year round with very few exceptions, and even then they don’t lose their leaves until December. It’s weird living in the desert!

Love to watch you build your work. I was amazed at how much the picture changed when you added the small leafy branches to both top corners. It went from in progress to almost fully formed. The line work is awesome, you are a master at adding the accents without burying the loose work underneath (the under painting). Will be working on more happy birds myself. Thank you.

We had the man in today to check our gas boiler for the winter so it's nearly time for me to go into hibernation AND I've bought a spider catcher off Amazon this year after last years invasion ,on opening the parcel I very nearly fainted they only put in a huge black plastic spider for you to practice catching, if I had a spider that big in my home I would pack my bags and leave. Its time to start painting Christmas cards soon so we are the all in the mood now 😂 feel better soon ☺❤

Yes, it should be. It will depend more on the pigment than the paper. Phthalo blue for example never lifts off anything because it is a staining color, but reds will lift better.

Hot press is great to add mixed media like colored pencils. It won't ruin your fine tip markers. I've been in the "Autumn Mood" since the beginning of September. Diane, you dear lady need to have a 'B*tch Session" I do not mean on YT. But it does help to get the 'you know what' out of your system so you can enjoy the season. I would gladly give you my number.

It is scary, what you're doing here paint first then ink makes me freeze. I've only just started painting and I've tried paint first then ink and failed the few times I've tried it, and now as I said I just can't seem to start a painting when I want to try this style
