On the 13th of June, two university students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar were killed on the street in Nottingham followed by the murder of a 65-year-old school caretaker Ian Coates by Valdo Calocane. Calocane had originally been charged with three counts of murder, while in custody four forensic psychiatrists agreed that the 32-year-old had been suffering from paranoid schizophrenia at the time of the attacks and so Calocane's plea of manslaughter was accepted. We’re joined by the victims' parents, Emma & David Webber and Sanjoy Kumar & Sinead O'Malley, who are now calling for a full public inquiry.

Barney’s mom is a bulldog. Good on her! All 4 parents are going to make this happen for their kids. So strong. They obviously raised beautiful children. So sorry they’re gone so young.

My heart absolutely breaks for these parents. The parents have been so dignified and calm amongst all their horror. I pray they get the justice they deserve. Shame on the authorities and justice system that have betrayed them!

I will never forget Barnaby's mothers weird, bizarre and horrendous speech after the incident in the town center when she went on a rant about diversity and we will not be divided, blah, blah, blah. I thought it was incredibly offensive. She had the perfect chance to let rip at the establishment, the government, the home office, the police, social services, priests, everyone who contributed to this tragedy but she chose to say complete and utter nonsense. I have a feeling when the attention wears of them, the phone stops ringing, their children's friends grow up and get on with their career's she may come to regret that appalling speech. Every time I see the picture of Grace I get so upset.

@@acquiesce100 I think you might have slightly misunderstood - all she was saying was that they didn’t want retaliation against any particular group of people (race, gender, sexuality ect.) which the perpetrator may have belonged to, which often happens in the wake of horrific events like this. She was making the point that none of that mattered, it was one person acting alone, don’t allow this to reflect any particular group of people ect 😊

The more and more people speak about 'mental health' you can see a lot of people don't have a clue.. Just the generic 'anxiety and depression'.. In no way are his actions excused, what he did was absolutely disgusting and i really feel for ther families... But the current mentality surrounding mental health is why these things sadly continue to happen. Unless you have experienced 'not being in your right mind' or experienced someelse in that state, i genuinely dont think people can fathom the risk and severity of the situation. i really hope the inquest gives these families some understanding and closure, along with putting things in place to ensure these things are prevented from happening.

Police should be on all our streets like they used to be and search people who are out late at night etc. I used to walk home from a nightclub and a very tall 6ft policeman would walk out from a door front of a shop and ask me where i've been, where i'm going and am i carrying anything i shouldn't. we need to go back to that or this country is doomed.

Just because he graduated the year before doesnt mean he was well. It is obvious he was mentally ill. He wasnt able to hold a job and was fired from multiple warehouse jobs and went to MI5 HQ asking them to stop controlling him. I do believe these deaths were predestined that they were there at that specific time - it could have been anyone! I do think Grace would've definately died wether she tried to help Barnaby or not. That evil guy would not have let anyone get away in his sight, she had no weapons or anything. We all go back to God in our own time, nothing is guaranteed except death. Rip to both.

You have added this comment twice now. Let's hope none of us have to go through such immense and devastating grief. Such grief has the potential to cause anyone to respond in ways which others might not relate to, understand or agree with. Have an opinion on it, sure, but all the blah blah blah remarks.. you are making yourself sound emotionally void and cold. Whether she goes on to regret her words or not, I am sure she hopes most compassionate people would understand under the circumstances. I certainly understand.

@@1pootle There is nothing to understand. It was complete trash and offensive to Grace. My heart aches when I see Grace and all these pathetic comments are just excuses to offer more nonsense RIP words and excuses and prayers. They mean NOTHING. Radical change is needed. She had a perfect opportunity "to wake people up" and be accountable. That was NOT the time to go on about Diversity nonsense. In a few months this will be forgotten, people will get on with their ordinary lives and the parents nightmare just begins. Many people I have spoken to have all said the same thing and that is why they have completely detached themselves from this case now and wait for the next one to occur. Wake up and stop looking at the world through rose tinted glasses. There are huge problems. This tragedy should NEVER have happened if people had done their job, so spare me the bleeding heart, left liberal nonsense. Wake up and get real. I think you are forgetting the EXACT same thing happened to 16 year old Christina Edkins in 2013 in Birmingham when she was knifed to death on the bus to school by an almost identical character. I bet you have forgotten that one haven't you, Sarah? Google it, to refresh your memory. Watch the haunting images of her mom standing behind her coffin on a cold rainy day in Birmingham. Go on look at it. Same thing going on again. The well written speech by whoever made Barnaby's mom say it was completely offensive. Barnaby's moms speech almost gave the justice system the ticket to come to the ghastly verdict they did. KZbin Christina Edkins funeral. Do it.

Does it make you feel good to make unessarary remarks and to put others down? I think you should take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and perhaps work towards being a better individual who can contribute to society in a positive way, rather than negative.
