I know this is from 12 years ago, but the actual beta horde theme was the snare drums, plus the L4D1 horde "danger", the fiddle was the theme used for when you were killing a mob of common infected.

i understand why they didn't use this in the final game. it gives a hopeful and uplifting vibe, when really the survivors are unsure if they will live in the end. They see a pile of corpses of the uninfected and healthy people. The Evac guys KILLED these people because they wanted to be safe. Whats more is that there were many unplanned events; the bombing of the bridge, the bombing from the planes and excruciating detours. I think its safe to say that they weren't all so optimistic and hopeful at the time. but damn this is a bop
