I've already picked this song to be played on my funeral (which is not on the horizon just yet, as far as I know). I've struggled as to which version would be most suitable. The Ronnie Drew take is raw, sad in its simplicity, rough as real life. The High Kings versions is smooth, angelic, soothing perhaps. But Dan McCabe has just come forth as a viable contender. This is the sound of grief, but also the sound of a wise mate saying: we had a good run and I hope you'll mis me as much as I will you, you noble bastard.
