@HellFox83 Жыл бұрын
I wasn't disappointed. Truly the Word Bearer was true to his word, but like the universe it is it was not to "save" the priest. But in a twisted way, the wayward Astartes did help the man to find his courage. It was something, even if it was not in the way some who deigned to hope wanted. Still, once again the true bearer of the word remains alone in the lion's den, continuing his vigil. A very poetically dark tale Vox and thanks to Stephen Duxbury for writing it! 👍

@@slkjvlkfsvnlsdfhgdght5447 diocles was extremely pleasant to his acolyte aret. He genuinely comforted him against the insanity of the warp. It didn't seem he did any of that to torture people but actually offer them safety until they gained the courage to martyr themselves for the emperor. He let aret live In safety until he gained the courage to try and take his life. He let him take the first blow while he was wounded and the blow aimed for his wound. Yeah he killed him but that's the point of Martyrdom he got to die fighting a heretic astartes for the emperor which I would imagine has some weight to it. The fact that he wasn't mutated to hell and back from what I can tell could prove that he hadnt completely given himself to the ruinous powers meaning he wasnt lying in the first story.

Listening Aret talk about his weakness for tolerating the evils around him must have struck a heavy chord with Diocles. Both he and Aret are surrounded by evil, and on their own they’re entirely powerless to stop it. Diocles has spent 10000 years tolerating and living with the same evil that Aret has been surrounded by, and has likely felt the same feelings of weakness and guilt that the acolyte has. It must be so, so much worse for him, having personally betrayed the emperor millennia ago.

These videos blow my mind. This story deserves to be Canon. A word bearer potentially recovering his faith ? Having a dark twisted redemption for acolytes ? Using the torment of the warp in a chaos marines ship to lead people to holy redemption? This channel deserves far more views and subscribers. Sorry Henry Cavil but I want this channel to write any Warhammer irl adaptations!

These stories of loyalist "traitor" marines have been such a fantastic addition to the vast lore of this setting. It single handedly opens the door to such a tremendous amount of depth from what was previously seen as "just more chaos factions". Truly wonderful work done in demonstrating that every coin has two sides and every shadow exists because a light has cast it.
@brettbourgeois53792 ай бұрын
I remember reading a short story about an inquisitor torturing a Chaos Space marine for information. The inquisitor mentions to himself that once a person has been corrupted by Chaos, it is impossible to bring them back into the light of the Emperor. However, the Word Bearer in this story had never been corrupted in the first place, so this story CAN go along with cannon. Vox puts out the best 40k narrative content by far.

The writing is brilliant; I felt I was right there watching from the shadows, understanding the torment of both characters, a powerless observer watching both the end and deliverance of one, and the lonely continuance of the other's torture. Well. Diocles' revenge against his god is really impressive and very clever... in every possible way. Sometimes I wish to know his very own perspective, just to make sure if he's batshit crazy or is really trying to shape and manipulate with Emperor's warp identity. * So, you don't believe in redemption arc? - Not in Word Bearers' ones. Not if they just have their pet projects. You are not penitent, you are someone who wish to shape and cultivate Emperor's character and identity through warp just for "Lorgar was right all the time!" * And was he not right all the time? - Actually no. Actually yes. Actually... it's complicated. * Really? (Never start argument with Word Bearer. You can't win. They have their truth and don't stop until you agree with them.)
