Question: why were the mixed multitudes not called hebrews then? Why does the text differentiate? Is the synonyme for mixed multitude then a ‚convert‘? Thank you !

Immediately after the experience and revelation at Mt. Sinai you never again hear the term “mix multitude”. The entire group is simply called the children of Israel. That’s because the Gentiles had converted along with the Jews at Mount Sinai.

Toda raba indeed. So at the point when they ate the passover meal before leaving Egypt, they were circumcised but not converted? Or did I get that wrong? I am trying to pinpoint the exact moment they transformed from being ’mixed multitude’ into an Israelite / Hebrew/ a Jew. Should one call them hebrews before they enter the Eretz Israel? Or what is the reason for them being called hebrews instead of israelites? B’H for your insights, rabbi.

@ thinking it as a three part process (which is exactly why there is basically a three part process to present a conversions. It’s all based on this experienced). There is circumcision, followed by immersion and water (Red Sea) and the final step is accepting the covenant at Mount Sinai.
