When I listen to Pat Metheny I find myself taking a journey like being on an aeroplane. The introduction has you on the runway for takeoff. Then as the song reaches the middle I find myself enjoying the view outside the window. Unfortunately the plane has to land which connects to the end of the song, but what an enjoyable ride it was just soaring above the clouds as you find a release from reality.

I usually like to play this cut in March, or even today on a dreary February afternoon as we root on Spring. Pat has been my favorite artist for the past 30 years and not a day goes by when I don't listen to his music...our relationship plays like one of my favorites: "Every Day (I Thank you)"...

One of my favorites from this Album, special memories i first heard this Album in 1989, Orange County , LA, my older was then living in the US, when listening to this track in particular i can still see in minds eye the images of the surroundings of Bearpaw, Irvine, California.. I always say music is a powerful transporter , the connection between time and space and where you were at certain time can only be through music and abstract things such as smell and other senses , but I will say that music is top of that list.

Musical Nirvana, this is! Pat Metheny---the quintessential source of the heartland's meditation on all things distinctively 'Americana,' that are not merely ornamental---but, RICH in COSMIC PORTENT----to flawless outcome, and hypnotic effect!

"One of those rare songs where every note is perfect where it is and how it's played." Totally agree. I would just note that "rare" would be stylistic word in that sentence if Metheny's music is meant.

I was introduced to the Pat Metheny group in 1981 while studying at Cardiff University, South Wales. Pat is just one of the few masters of jazz who works comfortably/harmony with other cultures/races on mother Earth This is true jazz in motion. Stay cool.
@80521912 жыл бұрын
Pat Metheny Group is very underrated, most of the bandmates past or present actually studied music this what makes his Jazz Fusion music one of a kind, because very few other artists, professional or up and coming can cover his music, everyone in his band are able to write and piece together their parts and blend in.

+Edward Henry Harriman Perfect too for a crisp day of Autumn solstice. Alas, whenever this earthly coil is too much upon me, I escape to my Audi A4's, Bang & Olufsen, 'Surround Sound' system of superfine audio, and slip in a CD of this timeless classic by Path Metheny. Then, slowly, all of the injustices and harsh realities of daily life slip away, as I am awash in musical genius that is second to none! Hence, Pat Metheny is an American artist for whom his art speaks to the deepest wells of the heartland's, Americana purity---to flawless outcome, and hypnotic effect!

+sequentialgear What a vivid picture that you've helped me to form in my mind's eye, sequentialgear! But, in all of my worldly travels, where is 'Serra de Sintra?' Could it be Brazil? Please kindly advise!
@sequentialgear8 жыл бұрын
+Richard Iritano It's in Portugal and it's beautiful! There are a lot of automotive brands nowadays presenting their new models here, and a lot of the photographic sessions feature it's gorgeous landscapes! It's a magical and mystic place!
@richardiritano11978 жыл бұрын
Now, I have visited Lisbon many times for business, sequentialgear, but now I must schedule a trip that is strictly for pleasure, sometime in June, where I will not research this magical and mystical 'Serra de Sintra!' As a matter of fact, I speak Spanish fluently, but Portuguese is not a language that I have spend much time studying, unlike Spanish, French, German and Italian (I am fluent in all four, besides English, and conversational Japanese, Mandarin and Russian). But, now you've got me curious for Portugal all over again, and I welcome your correspondence. Obrigado, amigo!
@sequentialgear8 жыл бұрын
+Richard Iritano well, june is in fact a bad time of the year to visit Sintra, tourist filled buses ruin the experience quite a bit! It gets really crowded during summer! Lots of beautiful places to visit around here, but being around Lisboa a few times and not hearing about Sintra is a sin! Never heard of it? Where are you from if I may ask? Please excuse my clumsy english writing skills!
@richardiritano11978 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the travel tips, sequentialgear. Yes, it is sinful that I have not committed my travel experiences to Sintra, but Lisbon is the only city where I have traveled to with limited exposure. I lived in London, Paris, Madrid, Valencia, Grenada and other parts of Europe and South America (Bogota, Buenos Aires), but my third generation birthplace is New York City---el mejor del mundo! Now, I will revise my travel itinerary to visit Portugal during some off peak times, as per your suggestion. Many thanks, amigo!

A beautiful sunny blue sky here close to the NC mountains. Instead of tv in the morning with all its garbage they call news and ads for candidates ripping into one another, I choose to go to the den, coffee in hand , sun shining thru the window and listen to this type of music, over and over and how wonderful it can make ones day starting out. I believe the body needs good energy to run well and the magic of this song and others like it make every morning great. Thank you for this piece.
