i think the scariest part of nurgle is that he genuinely thinks he is giving his followers gifts. he doesn't try to trick you into following him, like tzeetch or slaanesh especially, but he just has the most digusting vile idea of "gifts". for me the idea of something "blessing" you with horrid deformations entirely and purely thinking that it is a mercy is more terrifying then someone tricking you into joining a demon's choir. the idea of something loving but with a deformed possesive form of love is more strange and scary then anything else

It's kind of more than that too... a lot of the factions in the 40k universe have a core idea taken to their absolute extreme. Nurgle's is life, unimpeded, unrestrained, ever flourishing... life. It just happens that the form this ideology takes, means followers of Nurgle are "gifted" several plagues/bacteria and their bodies are essentially used for resources/habitats. To someone like a follower of Nurgle, they are bastions and cultivators of "life", seeking to spread the gift of life to others much like how humans seek to terraform and grow life on mars in the not too distant future. Nurgle is seen as loving, caring, and or benevolent because his "gifts" require living hosts, and thus if you follow Nurgle you are essentially offered immortality (otherwise his gifts would die with you) as well as freedom from pain (as your nerve endings die off)... which in the universe 40k is set in is a very appealing proposition, especially to those who may suffer from severe pain/disease. Ultimately Nurgle just seeks to see everyone and everything live, which is ultimately all any living being seeks to do.

@@vampuricknight1 Fantastic take, although I wouldn't say Nurgle is only about life. Afterall, he is the god of death as well. You can't have decay without death after all. Nurgle is more about the cycle, because you can't have new life until the previous life dies out. I think his host bodies are in constant state of death, decay, and rebirth. They are mini self sustaining terrarium biomes of diverse life. It's not quite Tzeentchian change because while Tzeentch is a break in the cycle, Nurgle is the cycle. He is not pure unchanging but rather the inevitability of decay, everything will decay and die and life will inevitably resurface. Nurgle knows exactly what will happen and it's only a matter of time. On the whole in terms of armies though, I think Nurgle can appreciate units that are stagnant and aren't constantly falling over dead just to decay into a puddle of goo then reform forever. Mostly because he has a Great Game he's trying to win and he can't do that if half his army is temporarily liquid.

Actually even not when it comes to being a chaos worshipper Plagues actually are good in their own way. Plagues and diseases kill the weak in any population, as well as help quell numbers. A disease hitting trees can be a good thing in an overcrowded forest, because it kills many, and through that death the others can live. It opens up light so the forest as a whole can grow taller, and those trees that died? They become fertilizer to fuel it, and over time feed bugs, deer, and other animals.

He saved Isha so he could better test the effects and potency of his plagues (her being the eldar goddess of healing). Nurgle does bring about a lot more suffering than most (except Slaanesh perhaps) unless they join or are are forcibly ‘converted.’ His plagues don’t just ravage mind and body but also violate the soul as they are as much supernatural as natural. In a way, Khorne could be argued as the least evil of the four: direct, prefers quick deaths [kill count being his thing] and so long as you fight and die well, he’s pleased. The four seek to perpetuate themselves and feed which while the aspects are now twisted and evil, the urge to survive is not. They are cosmic predators and they will do what they need to thrive

Look dude, I have been a copywriter. This means that I have worked on hundreds of brands like VW, written thousands of TV and radio scripts, and selected and directed countless voice artists. And you know what? I'm kinda jealous! Your scripts are so amazing! The way you teach us about the WH40K universe using narrative and monologues is quite simply genius! The part after the dirged "hail nurgle", aside from the omage to the Many, really feels like the feeverish dream the "chosen" is experiencing while being filled and overcome by Nurgle's gifts. The soul touching the Grandfather, a feather slip, but sending him into a series of delirious visions. Before succumbing to all of it, or maybe triumphing over it, becoming a Plague Marine.

I have been running 40k rpg games for our group, and the recent campaigns have been spearheaded by Nurgle and his kin. I started watching/listening to this before each session to get into character/mood, and this video still gets me pumped each time. It's just so well done with how it flows between someone being "enlightened", listening to "the collective" (voice acting brought me so many memories of system shock 2 for Shodan and the many!~), and finally being invigorated with the words of a plague champion. Just... chef's kiss.

Nurgle understands the faults of humanity it is his joy that the soldiers of death guard truly feel that causes them to be so loyal and diffcult to beat them in battle if you really think about it it doesn’t matter what you look like or if you are not “accepted” for example look at the way the death guard army they do not have a compelling appearance but if you truly accept love in your heart then nothing else matters this is exactly why nurgle is the only chaos god that truly cares because he does not pull the wool over his followers eyes and deceive them with surface level tricks he offers truth, acceptance, love and genuine compassion and for people that turn the death guard or plague marines away because of their appearance that is foolish and only goes to prove the opposing point even further it is an analogy for life that we as humans miss the bigger picture and can’t see the elephant in the room of what the actual problem is because we are hung up on things that don’t matter and we don’t accept each other for who we actually are and no one not even The so called “heroes” of the imperium genuinely care about anyone but themselves it’s really sad I bet you that if Nurgle’s way of life and approach to true nurturing were more accepted and I am talking about real life thing would be so much better just think about how many other countries there would be no more violence just true understanding and compassion for all people any shape or size I hope that this catches on and we can all understand each other

absolutely spot on. nurgle is the buddha, but grimdark transcend vanity, and you will find peace. this is the real reason nurgle is at odds with the other chaos gods slahneesh = trapped in ego tzeentch = trapped in the mind khorne = trapped in emotion nurgle = present moment.
