It’s a lovely make Carole and looks lovely on you. The Patina is so far my favourite blouse and I’ve now made three. Two long sleeve and one short sleeve for summer with material ready and waiting to make another. What I love about this blouse is it’s easy to wear (I know sounds a bit strange but I’m sure you know what I mean) due to the ease and fit. I’m generally a t-shirt and knit fabrics kind of girl but wanted something smarter but comfortable to wear. The Patina is perfect for this. I love the idea of not doing the button holes (although my machine does them really well). I’ve made the lower neck version and confess that I tend not to undo the buttons to put it on.

Hi Ann, thanks so much for your comment and wow, you must be an expert on the Patina! I know exactly what you mean about being easy to wear, I ended up wearing it all day without feel fussy at all. I would definitely make another and try the long sleeve version but leave off the button and splits like Jen did. It is certainly a good piece to have in the wardrobe! Thanks for watching 😊

Thanks so much! It was certainly a change from my normal pattern choice thanks to One Girl Creates 🤣. Interesting you say you think it's youthful as I panicked thinking it would make me look older! I have no idea where you can get copy shop print to be honest and I find that the Indie patterns are just so expensive plus as you say you then pay to print?! I only but Indies if they do a paper pattern but that's just me being old fashioned, some of them are so lovely 🤣👵🏻.

As soon as your video started, I said "wow!" because your blouse is so beautiful! Love the fabric colors, and the style looks great on you!!! 🥰 Yes, you should definitely make again and again! 😊 Like you, I don't like stand-up collars either and avoid tops and dresses that have them. I think it goes back to my working days when I would often have to iron my (purchased) shirt collars to make them look nice and crisp. Additionally, woven (purchased) button-down shirt sleeves were usually too tight across my biceps and drove me crazy throughout the day. (Now, I know how to adjust me-made sleeve pattern pieces.) However, your Friday pattern is definitely one I would try making because of the flat collar and loose sleeves. Great make and pattern review, Carole!!! Love your cheat re: the button holes. 😆

Thank you Dori! Yes I will certainly make this one again as I like the way it looks casual yet not if you know what I mean! What is it about collars?! @@socarole66 Only heard of the Friday Pattern Company since watching this video. Now, I see and heard of these patterns 3 times this week, all from sewists in the UK. Assumed that the company was based in the UK or Europe - wrong! It's here in California. Go figure! Going to go to the website and check out all the patterns. Usually stick to the Big 4, but branch out to indie pattern makers when I really like a particular design I come across. Thanks so much for mentioning this company, Carole!

Beautiful blouse. I love the material. It's a good color on you. I like the smaller seam allowance, but I like a bigger seam allowance when I do a new pattern or a use a new pattern company. I do wish the V was a little higher up. If I would bend over I'd be grabbing the the V. Have a great week.

Thanks Diane, I was worried about the depth of the collar but because the blouse isn't oversized it doesn't seem to gap luckily. I have hardly anything that is V necked as it worries me as well! As you say, when you are trying a new pattern or company for the first time, you need the reassurance of a larger seam allowance, it is just what you are used to I suppose. Welcome to the other side haha! Your blouse is beautiful. It does look to fit you perfectly and the fabric is lovely. I have the pattern but haven't made it yet. Yours is inspiring me to get on with it. Why are so many machines such trouble when it comes to button holes I wonder? I hear people say it all the time on YT. Mine fools them up all the time. I bought a second machine because the buttonhole function didn't work on my original (Janome) machine even with a lot of effort by the repair shop to fix it. My new one (Bernette B38) just isn't consistent. All that is to say that I do the same thing whenever I can now - I prepare the placket and just sew on the buttons and no one would ever know.
@socarole66

The dark side!!! I did really like the fabric so that helped and yes, luckily I think I chose the right size. My machine does a buttonhole beautifully on a test piece and then something goes wrong most often on a garment so, why put myself through the stress if they will never be used! Glad you are in agreement with me, as you say, who knows and who would check! Thanks for your kind comment 😊

I’m a fan of the big 4 too. It may not be trendy but they are consistent. That said, I’m currently doing a Wardrobe by me pattern - the Ava wrap - it’s not going great, 3/8” seam allowance and a strange way to add pockets (plus numerous spelling mistakes throughout 😮) …. but I’ll persevere and we’ll see. As of now, I am no longer doing PDFs either - all that paper and sellotape! 😩. Do you use a particular online printing copy that you’d recommend? Your Patina blouse is really lovely though and really suits you. Thanks for the vlog as always. 👍

Hi there, Big 4 for me and although they do trendy, it's the classic ones I tend to have! I have done a wardrobe by my pattern and I will admit I had issues too but it came out ok in the end. I do not do PDFs unless it is for a small item or baby item then I make the exception and just use my normal printer. I am so against as it doesn't save the environment at all, it just costs them less to create these garment patterns 🤣. I have seen the Big 4 trying to increase their PDF patterns which worries me a little. I'm going to grab all the paper ones I can get and keep them! Thank you so much for your lovely comment on the Patina and for watching 😊

I really like it on you and love the fabric. I often cheat with the buttonholes too if I don't think I will use them. 1cm seam allowances bug me too - especially if you need to add 2 rows of gathering stitches or have fabric that frays easily. Mostly the instructions were good but the pictures especially the ones showing stitching lines were not and they didn't talk much about edge finishing. I sewed in the sleeve after sewing up the side seams - I like the end result better.

Thanks so much for your comment Margaret. It turned out to be one of my favourite blouses in the end of last year and I keep wanting to make another! Re the seam allowance, yes 1 cm is not enough for gathering stitches and I don't understand why all the different Indi companies do different amounts? I'm so used to 1.5 sometimes I just go on auto pilot and run into trouble! Sounds like you had success with the pattern as well. Thanks for watching 😊🧵

Your blouse is beautiful. I almost always work with the big 4. I find it a pain to tape patterns all together and we don’t have printing availability here.

Oh I certainly wouldn't have made this one without the actual paper pattern! I can't abide printing and sticking millions of pieces together only to cut them all up again. We do have a printer but the ink is just so expensive now and runs out all the time. Big 4 wins hands down for me too! Thanks for watching 😊

I’m almost done with making this blouse and have just realized I didn’t sew the ends of the collar and they are open … I’m so annoyed with myself.. I don’t think my fabric will withstand a lot of unpicking as it frays. Any ideas on how to rectify this other than tucking the seam allowance’s in, pressing and tiny hand stitching? Loving your channel 😊

Oh gosh that is so annoying for you! The only way I can think of is the same as you suggested really so I'm not much help. This is the kind of thing I often do 🤣. Hope you managed to sort it and are pleased with the end result. 🧵😊

Yep Jackie, I am not a blouse wearer either but I ended up wearing this all day as it just felt more like a viscose casual top 👏🏼 I may have to make another! Thanks for your lovely comment x😊

Hi Carole, what a lovely choice of pattern and fabric. Really lovely. I 've ordered the pattern but not sure how much fabric to order. How much do I need for the short sleeve please?

Thank you very much Linda. Depending on your size the fabric required for the short version is: 45" fabric starts at XS - 2 yards ranging to 7X is 3.1 yards For 54-60" 1.7 yards for XS and 2.5 yards for 7x. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching. 😊🧵

I really love your blouse, it is beautiful on you, where can I get the ready made pattern ? I live in Western Australia. The ones I have seen with pale fabric seem to show up the beautiful collar really well, whereas the darker colours not so much. My idea would be to insert some subtle piping on the edge of the collar so that it stands out a bit more with the darker fabrics, what do you think ? Thanks for the lovely chat !!

Hi there. I bought that pattern from Minerva online. I see that the Friday Pattern company do sell theirs online but not sure how expensive that would be for you. I suppose that is why people are drawn to PDFs for speed and to avoid high postage charges. Subtle piping was actually something my Mum said I should do and I would probably do that next time with a patterned fabric, thank you. Good luck if you manage to make it, it was a great blouse. 😊💖

Good on you Zelda! Why do I need to pay for a pattern and yet print and stick all those pages together when I can buy one pre done 🤣.
