🎉This is my 100th video on KZbin 🎉 When I was thinking about what I regret NOT doing in 6 years on this platform, one thing came to mind. Years ago I made Patterned Plywood serving boards for my family. I didn't film it because it was the holidays, and I was in a hurry. I did, however post it on Instagram and people freaked out over them! My biggest post EVER! I realized I made a major mistake not making a video. For video 100 I'm rectifying my mistake and not only remaking this design. I also made a limited run of them for sale on my website.

While your work is known most for your patterned plywood to those who just got to know your channel, I would just like to say that everything about your work: your woodworking process and skills, your creativity, your explanatory capabilities, and your production value are incredible and truly unique. I've learned plenty of techniques from you, gotten to see new ways to think about materials in general, and I am sure your future work will continue to evoke those qualities, the ones that make us think outside the plywood box! Thank you for being you, doing what you love, and sharing it with us!

Amazing work. Love the store and I got a serving board. A cool variant would be to have the mountain top/night sky with a visual separator that would give the appearance of multiple separate mountains or angled pieces cut from a white hardwood to look like snow covered peaks.

Congrats on both the 100th video AND the new store! Love your video style (clear concise edits, clear simple explanations of what and why you are doing something, visuals that really show what's going on and visuals that make it go beyond a "how I did it" video [the pieces all in a row slowly marching forward and jumping into the box {reminded me of Monty Python videos with the animation showing people doing something similar}]). Please keep going and sharing with us!

As an experienced woodworker do you think it is possible/worth it to change an electric teapot's handle to full wooden one? It will both make it more fitting with the kitchen design and allow me to get rid of a toxic stinky plastic handle and actually use my teapot for once.

Love the illusion! For how you chose portrait frame, I think people will likely orient and serve with a landscape orientation though. That it’s a natural tendency to make a horizontal spread of appetizers (this allows you to visually fill your table lengthwise or your island/buffet). Its right to probably on have a bit of sky, 1/3 sky and 2/3 mountain but have a landscape over the length of board.

Omg!!! I’ve wanted to watch this specific alpine cutting board for sooooo long since seeing this featured in your work bench video a year ago. I just finished gluing up a solid hardwood cheese board (same alpine pattern) inspired by your cutting board only I used a gradient pattern starting dark to light with purple poplar (I couldn’t find walnut anywhere near me and didn’t have time to wait on ordering some as my Xmas is this thanksgiving and had to hustle), then it steps up to mahogany, alder, hickory and lastly maple. Mine are just small gifts for my family as large cheese boards but because of your pics it pushed me to start using the table saw again and anyways it’s been a challenging but needed project to accomplish. I’ve avoided using the table saw for too long but this project has taught me a lot. I will say I’ve learned to check the thickness of my boards! The mahogany was slightly under 3/4” unlike all my other woods and there are minor gaps that I’ve had to fill with wood glue and sawdust, that I wasn’t thinking and glued up a large panel to later split into 3… don’t do that! The glue was already drying before I could get halfway through the pattern but it clamped up nicely and overall it’s beautiful and I wouldn’t have attempted something like this without your detailed content! Thank you so much!

These boards are awesome!! They just need to be about 4 times larger to make a nice large cutting board! There is no way I could use a cutting board this small ;) Also as for the merch they look awesome and I wish more brands cared about how their merch looked. Everyone just seems to throw it on the cheapest t-shirt or hand and then be like "I have merch" its like no you don't you have junk with your logo on it. If you make a nice logo and put it on really nice clothing then people will want to actually wear it!! This merch looks like you put time and effort into the quality and those hats look awesome and I am a hug hoodie guy and I love that hoodie. Good on you for not just selling to make a buck but caring about your brand! Just one persons opinion, that logo is way too huge on the back of the sweater for most people the simple logo on the front would be perfect. Make that hat in a full back also!!

Congratulations Michael on your 100th video and your success. Have been watching your video for few years now and learned a lot. One suggestion on gluing - since top is not blocked by wedges you could use thick flat board from the top a the caul to prevent cupping. Cheers...
@MatthewKrieger
@MatthewKrieger Жыл бұрын
Can you please clarify two things? 1. Why does the wedge method prevent cupping? I assumed to prevent cupping you’d put a heavy flat object on top to Hold it flat while it dries? 2. For the one that cupped could you have done on a planar rather than belt sander? First wedge, then run through, then flip, repeat.

I have successfully corrected some bowed glued up panels by “rehydrating” and then pressing the panel. I found this technique in a Fine Woodworking article. You place the panel concave side down on top of a damp towel, and then position a heat lamp or heat source about 2 feet away facing the surface. It works with PVA glues. I had to use this method when I glued up 1/2” white oak panels for sliding door inserts and it worked well. I kept them in a press overnight after flattening and they stayed flat afterwards. Saved my butt as the 2 panels were grain matched and I would have needed to reproduce the whole front of the cabinet.

I think your patterned plywood is incredible, but then I caught a glimpse of the edge of the 'square pattern' board and my Art-Deco-ometer went bananas. You have reached rung-one on a very tall ladder of plywood patterning. If you limit the 'repeating' quality or even mimic the plywood effect on a much bigger scale (with maybe laminated hardwoods) the decoration could reach fine art quality - GO FOR IT, Michael! I'd be intrigued to see what can be achived.
