12 Angry Men is a masterpiece and Lumet’s work is incredible. Likewise, In the Heat of the Night is one of my favourite films and Rod Steiger’s performance was absolutely outstanding. Needless to say I’m proud to own the BFI Blu-ray of this Sydney Lumet classic. Great review.

Saw Steiger in the original MARTY and then as the title character in W.C. FIELDS AND ME in the same week, and it was amazing to see his range.

Rod Steiger was an amazing actor. The more a role demands of him, the more depth he finds. This is a demanding film, no question, he really can’t have played many roles that demanded more. It also demands a lot from the viewer. It is an outstanding film, but perhaps isn’t meant for those for whom films are just an entertainment or a way of passing time. It’s a long time since I’ve seen this, largely because it’s not one to for all the family, or one for a few mates to watch over a beer or three. I’d watch it again, but I’m not sure when. 7:48

I hope FAMILY BUSINESS eventually gets released to bluray. Only great actors like Sean Connery and Dustin Hoffman could convince you they're father and son. It's a great heist film written by the guy who wrote THE POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE!
