This was on 'Disco Explosion' from K-Tel. It is from 1974. I had this album as a kid and my dad threw it out 'cus it was scratched. I found it again in a car boot sale in the late nineties and it is a gem in my collection. This track is my favourite from the LP but there are other classics too.

Yes! That record is where I remember this track from. I still have that album from way back then, its scratched and jumps but I still get it out for a nostalgic listen every so often. Lots of great other tracks like Kung Fu Fighting, Summer Love Sensation, Cat Steven's version of Another Saturday Night and so many more! Me and my siblings played it endlessly because it was the only record we had back then!

Glad that Sparks are still going strong - they've just released a brilliant new single called "iPhone" which is going viral on KZbin. Funny, but also a sad indictment as to how many people are conditioned to behave these days. Mud are still around, but have no intention of doing any new recordings.

Apparently a TOTPs clip does exist somewhere, basically it was The Ladybirds, stalwart backing singers for TOTPs/ Benny Hill etc who certainly deserved recognition for all the hard work they did week after week.
@SmartCookie20225 ай бұрын
Good to know a clip still exists somewhere. Lyn Cornell and Ann Simmons were originally part of The Vernons Girls but _did_ become part of The Ladybirds, which consisted of 12 different singers throughout the years.

Roker & Shury who wrote this had to notify ATV songs in America when First Choice covered the song because the American label put the incorrect songwriters on their first pressings.

This was their greatest hit in the early summer of 1974, and does sound 'Motownesque' - but producer Phil Swern was a great admirer of the label and its artists, I thought the Pearls were so refreshing in the last days of the 'glam rock' era and slightly retro mod in a good way?

Oh, I remember this, particularly the rather blunt key change late on. I'm not sure if we should really count the key change at 2:18 as a "truck driver's gear shift", because it really feels more like just an excuse to stretch the song out by an additional 40 seconds or so. Still, a nice little ditty. Thanks for posting.
