As a member, Penfield Model Engineers does have the Penfield No 1 sign. We use it as our name board for our miniature railway station.

So many memories as a man from Elizabeth my whole life, remembering the loop as we drove past. The second line was indeed very close, the Bagster road crossing was not very wide at all. Great drone work too.

For remnants, the Penfield No.1 station sign is still around - it's now at the station of the Penfield Model Engineers, not too far from there

Hey Liam! You reminded me that I did get footage of that but didnt end up including it for some reason. I might show it on tonight's stream. Thanks!

I did enjoy your video. I think I may of ridden a steam train back in the 70s out to Penfiield & back to Adelaide.

Also actually caught Redhen's out there in the 80s to do work experience when I was in year 9 (I think) at British Aerospace inside DSTO caught train from grandparents place near Chidda station, good fun holding the door open with my foot on a stinking hot day...

I lived in that munitions factory for about 3 months when I was at Edinburgh for recruit training. I remember crossing the rail line hump daily.

I was in the Army Cadets as a teenager. That was enough military for me! Respect to you for your service.

I seem to recall Salisbury train station having a "next train" sign near the southern end next to the ticket office, wonder if it's still there along with any signs that denote a Penfield service.

How long ago do you reckon that was? Lots has changed since electrification.

@@Outdoorstype over 10 years, moved away from Salisbury in 2012. From memory it was blue, hanging from the underside of the roof of the shelter. It looked like it had multiple little signs inside it. I often wondered if there was different ones for Adelaide, Gawler, Penfield and maybe even Barossa services

Thanks for adding that! I'll go and check that out. I always learn more from you guys than I could ever imagine!

@@Outdoorstype when they upgraded Salisbury they had the sliding signs by the ticket office. which would be near where the seating finishes now. I think there is a walkway across to John street crossing the Bus lanes behind the station. This is by memory and I am starting to get on a bit with age.

I loved the balloon loop, it would have been good if the rail trail followed the balloon loop. I also liked the Outer Harbour balloon loop, pity it's gone.

It's a shame that the only thing really left is penfield 3 and they have they let it rot like they could of kept it in good condition and put a sign on it explaining the history of the area and why the railway was needed.

I thought it was cute that the army base was kind of cut out around it. Thanks for watching, O'Mallee.

Lucky you didn't film the Orion closer to the road or you would have had a very angry security guard yelling at you.

Very interesting Mike. I wonder how much of the old ammunitions might still be buried under the grounds in that area 🤔

how did you get permission to fly a drone that close to an airbase?? pretty sure you aren't supposed to fly within 5.5km of a airport in SA

It's all good, Wolfe. I have questions about some of the drone footage I've seen on YT too. Drone rules are complicated. The Mavic Mini weighs

@@Outdoorstype LOL yep I live very near Adelaide airport, afew years back was out in the backyard one night walking back from the shed and spotted a good sized drone flying about between 300 and 1000' feet we are right in one of the approach corridors so I wasn't impressed! Who it was I don't know so I reported it. Would be same as a birdstrike if a plane sucked one into an engine

Yeah that stuff is just not OK. I can only conclude that many retail drone buyers just throw away the MASSIVE YELLOW PAMPHLET on basic drone rules included with every drone sold in Australia without reading it. Drones are aircraft, not toys. Even 249 gram ones.

@@Outdoorstype yep I started with rc gliders when I was 14 (sometime in the distant past) but moved across to rc offroaders, then to RC ships ...less repair time!! more operational time...lol
