The Pennine Way (part two) Hebden Bridge to Malham
The Pennine Way is a National Trail in England, with a small section in Scotland. The trail runs 268 miles (431 km) from Edale, in the northern Derbyshire Peak District, north through the Yorkshire Dales and the Northumberland National Park and ends at Kirk Yetholm, just inside the Scottish border.

Nice to see it is not only me that walks the wrong way lol. That is exactly what it's all about, chilling out on a great day in superb scenery and it's all absolutely free. Got to say 19.5 miles was canny going mind and another good campsite at Pondon Mill. Happy to walk passed the wildlife but never keen on going passed cows, sitting down or not. Making good progress and a nice final stop at Malham and what a beautiful white horse that was. Cheers Alan

Thanks Alan, as Si Ascent 41 said: walkers are never lost just geographically challenged!😁 I've never been worried by cows but there was an incident on this walk with a silly young cow who tried to intimidate me by walking behind me as a passed by. I was already aware of her agitation as I approached and on occasions like this I would try and find a route around her but was not able to this time. So I just turned around to face her with my arms out and she backed away. In all my years hillwalking and long distance backpacking I have only had two incidents with cows though. I think all animals can sense fear in humans and that might agitate them imho 🙂

You covered some miles but it seemed a really chilled out walk, good that your taking your time to soak it all up but still walking a good distance, beautiful mixed landscapes along the way, that bird was noisy circling you, that Anker power port looks good, reversing sheep haha , this part looked a really pleasant part of the trail, along canals and reservoirs, I'm behind on my youtube watching so I'm always late watching videos these days, enjoyed watching 👍👍

Thanks Gaz mate! The animals made their presence felt on this part of the walk! The Anker Power Port is top quality - love it. It's quite easy to rack up the miles on the Pennine Way as the flagstones and hard packed paths on a lot of the way make it a dream to walk on but you still need the energy to keep plodding away though and keeping the pack weight down helps a lot too!👍🍻😁

I've feel rejuvenated just by watching your wander on video. There is nothing as wonderful as being out in the world and seeing the beauty in all it has to offer. The moors are just magical. The lonely wanders have always been some of my favorites, it's become more difficult to find a bit of solitude over the years. Enjoyed my stay at Gargrave! I'm sure the locals will forgive me for making a real pig's ear of the pronoucation in the video! The campsite was really peaceful and the chip shop served saveloy which I've been told in the comments is really hard to find in the north! Atb 👍🍻🙂

That went really quick Snowy. There is a definite feeling that runs through you when you exit semi built up areas for the high moors. We literally breathe in all that space. Mind you field hopping has its appeal. I love to enter a new field. Call me a geek but that's what i enjoy. Loads of good moments in this one. I had visions of you shinnying that bridge and climbing over them sheep. A nice exchange though. Well, very enjoyable. All the best. Mark

Funny you should say that Mark when I climbed up on the fence to try and pass the back sheep finally figured out how to walk backwards and back into the field! I know what you're saying about the feeling of openness after the confines of a narrow path which there was plenty of leaving Hebden Bridge. 👍🙂

I am darn sure I've seen that town on a lot of BBC TV shows! Sucks to go wrong especially at the beginning. Easy to do :-( Did you have to prebook the campsites? Killer dogs, ducks, horses, cows, and sheep. It is jungle up there! 10:55 is a vulture Snowy :-)

I didn't book anything it's not my style I'm just a grab my backpack and go type! On this trip through my lack of planning caused a few anxious moments but all part of the adventure. I would advise anybody doing this walk and not confident about finding solutions to any problems on the ground as they occur to book though especially in summer!! Thanks to Teddy up there in the pinned comment the bird has probably been identified to a lapwing or curlew that was defending its nesting area. I came across a few of these bird incidents on the high moors! No humans or birds came to any harm - increase the peace!!😄

Nice film SnowyM, I'd melt in Paramo this time of year. Never facied getting a solar power charger, unless I was hiking abroad. 🤔 Did you find out what that bird was?

Thanks mate! I know about the Paramo but internet experts and all that in the comments so felt I had to put them straight in my video! lol Solar panels of the past have been next to useless in the UK but these next generation panels are fantastic! Last year on CWT it kept my phone & GoPro charged up in cloudy daylight so was very happy with it. This year with sunlight it was amazing so easily justifies its 400g in my pack! The bird was a lapwing or a curlew according to Teddy's local knowledge in the pinned comment. 👍🍻🙂

Thanks Anthony! I never book or plan anything really! I just turn up and walk! Most of the campsites say they will never turn away a backpacker no matter how full they are. I only had one problem with this in Alston when I was told by a couple in the chip shop that they had just been turned away from the campsite because they had a tent. It was past 8pm so I didn't waste daylight trying to get into that site so I started back on the way and luckily found a farmer's field without any animals for an emergency wild camp! All part of the adventure although I was a bit anxious at the time with darkness coming and someone in the town telling me I was walking out of town when I should have been walking into town! 😁

Great video lots of information mate. Hebden bridge great i found one most friendly places in the UK i been to. Aladdins cave shop was closed when i did the end to end trail but think was old lady said i can drink straight from the spring by the shop which i did no filter needed :) I camped at the old ruins nice bit of wind shelter. The duck seemed bit lost there haha. Killer dog that does not sound good specially on the moors could be a werewolf :) I came across a sheep with its head stuck in a gate and one stuck in a crack in the ground they do get there self in a bit a pickle haha. @@snowymatrix There was a sign bit like that in a Village near where i live and had photo of rabid dogs. :) you must been in the tan inn there a American Werewolf style pub sign in there :)

Well I’ve been to Withen top a couple of times, not sure about the reservoir, will have to check my own vids 🤣 had a laugh about the paths going through gardens, cause it’s true lol, many a time I end up walking past people’s front doors & down their driveways, I always feel odd about it though 👍

There's one section later on in the trail where you have to climb the back garden wall of a house, walk past the side of the house and pass their cars on the driveway before climbing out by their front garden wall!! 😄

You're a brave man, it can be a real chore hiking in summer, especially in the open like that. Those water canals were very interesting, love the human history there. How old do you think they might have been? Nice of Shadowfax to pay you a visit. Enjoyed this one like I did the first. Will watch the third part tomorrow night!

I knew there was something about that horse!! Had to Google Shadowfax as not really watched TLOTR apart from the first one when it came out. The way he greeted me when I said hello by nodding its head he had to understand what I said! Thanks for watching the adventure. I think those canals have to be a few hundred years old at least but nowhere near old enough to be Roman built like Hadrian's wall which will be in part 5 :-)

The bird is a Curlew, saw lots of them when I walked the Pennine way but my favourite bird calls were from the Snipe at Langdon Beck as I had never heard one before.

@@manodfergus It's aground nesting bird so can be easily disturbed by walkers. They and their young will be OK as long as walkers stick to the paths.

That will be because it couldn't see behind itself when walking and knows there is water below with a drop off. It was trying to turn around before freezing scared to its spot. You climbing the fence gave him the confidence to back up. I know horses can be difficult backing up near running water too.
