I mean there were much better character options even from other Shin Megami series that they could have picked that changed or defined the Genre more, Joker just got in because Persona 5 brought a huge casual crowd into it despite being a greatly inferior story to 3 and 4, gameplay wise it's better... kind of, it's a lot easier which for an SMT game is very off. Plus the added villain of royal clearly flunked out of college and faked his degree as even a freshman psychology major would tell him how wrong he was. Hell a highschool level of understanding of Psychology would tell him he was wrong.

When you think about it: Joker and the Phantom Thieves actually COULD be effective against Sephiroth. With how they can steal distorted hearts and all, they could potentially get him to stop. However, I emphasize "COULD" because it would all depend on if Sephiroth's perspective and desires would be considered distorted or not. It SEEMS obvious that they would be - considering his origins & backstory - but things aren't always so straightforward. Prime example being Goro Akechi, AKA Crow.

Still akechi Would have a palace if he was not a persona-User, is explained that a strong distorted desire creates palaces, and distorted desires can range from an incorrect view from reality, or something like a great Ego like my guy that has 3.5m of pure muscle mass

@@dhark0n332 I disagree for multiple reasons. Maruki was a persona-user, yet he had a Palace - complete with a Treasure that was the heart of his distorted desires. Sure, he meant well, but his view was still distorted - he thought that erasing problems and regrets altogether would create a "true utopia", but in reality he was just forcing his ideal world onto others while erasing parts of who they are. After all, while suffering and struggles are awful to experience, they become a part of who a person is and how they grow. Akechi, on the other hand, while you would think his heart is distorted, was in actuality just full of hatred towards Shido. He was simply hyper-focused on bringing Shido to his height with the intention of ripping it all away from him. Sure, he had self-loathing - calling himself a "cursed child" due to the circumstances of his birth, his mother's suicide, and how he had been neglected growing up - but he never deluded himself into thinking that he was "good" or "right" in everything he did. He knew it was wrong to commence those mental shut-downs, he knew that he was helping scumbags, he just hadn't cared. Basically, Maruki was delusional and therefore had a distorted desire, while Akechi was hyperfixated in a bad way but not really delusional - therefore he didn't have a distorted desire.

@@gabriellemccormack1426 i knew this would be the answer before even reading it, and i admit, i do not have a decisive motive to why morgana states that persona users can't have palaces since they have casted away their masks and are unable to see the world in a distorted way, but my boy maruki could, my only speculation is that he in fact has not a persona, but his palace created one to protect him like shadows

@@dhark0n332 But shadows don't typically leave their palaces, or directly communicate with people, or give people powers either. And there's also the fact that when Yaldabaoth was defeated, the Phantom Thieves had subconsciously given the god's power to Maruki, so how would a shadow created by a Palace be able to become that powerful without some direct connection to Maruki? Not to mention, Maruki's power to alter a person's cognition is parallel to how Akechi could cause shadows to go beserk. As for why Morgana said that Persona-users cannot have palaces, well it was proven later in the game plot that he doesn't know EVERYTHING about the Metaverse, things that surprised him or that he didn't know about until others had speculated, so I'd say it's a safe assumption that he could have been wrong about some things regarding Persona-users and Palaces. Not to mention, maybe it's possible that even after awakening a Persona, a Persona-user is not immune to becoming distorted.
