This is the greatest story. This is so much the truth a lot of people can't see the complexity and subtlety. Instead, they get hung up on the "what is" instead of the "what could be". Hey Master: You still wondering what the poor people are doing today? Thanks for reminding me.

This is an African American folk tale. Like all stories, particularly folk tales, it is intended to teach. The lesson of this tale is not about how to actually fly or that Black people grew wings like birds. That is the take-away of the child, entertained by the story. The true lesson is of the story is resiliency. If you read this as you would read a European folk tale, or other any other literary work, you think about what each character and what his or her actions represent. Effectively analyzing literature requires an understanding of the history that gave rise to the story. Knowledge of historical and cultural context are key to understanding a story, the intention of the story teller, and purpose of the story. What is great about all art is the humanity art brings to the facts. Art is what helps us understand the culture that informs and grows out of the facts. When art is truly studied, it does so much - promotes knowledge, provides insight, evokes empathy. If these things are missing after hearing this story, it's time to study harder. There's lots to learn from this one; there's something new every time. That's what makes it so delightful no matter the age.

It is not an African American folk tale. I’m from Guyana and my grandmother used to tell me the same thing. I haven’t researched this until 2019 bc I thought my grandmother was crazy. I have come across information from others even Toni Morrison that have even heard of the tales.

I’m from Guyana my grandmother used to tell me that black peoples could fly. She said after black peoples started to consume salt that’s when they couldn’t fly anymore.

I eagerly bought the book and read it over and over again, but every time I attempted to fly, I'd simply come crashing back down to earth. I think the instructions are either incomplete or in error. I would not recommend this to a friend, especially one who does not have health insurance - it's just too dangerous.

@0SatampraZeiros0 i don't know why your're so upset, my dear. Have a hamburger or something you're probably hungry. Only some of them could fly and the ones who could fly left.
