1 in 500 to 1 in 36…..that equates to a 1289% increase within 25 years…..personally, i find it difficult to look at those numbers and not consider that there are likely factors present today that weren’t present before….im certain that most would agree that an increase of that magnitude over such a short period of time is unprecedented.

Yep literally all of my friends and colleagues have or believe they have at least one autistic or ADHD child and literally millions of people are on the waiting list waiting to be diagnosed. In England an autistic or adhd diagnosis isn’t necessarily recognised if diagnosed privately so parents have to wait for nhs diagnosis which can take years. It would be interesting to know why the increase in numbers. Maybe it’s Environmental or lots of older mothers or maybe just natural evolution 🤷♀️

Hi Mary, when you say environmental triggers coupled with genetic predisposition. What would the environmental triggers be? Or atleast what are they believed to be? Many thanks!

I believe introducing early screen time in kids (less than 1 year specially) like tab, phone etc is also contributed as environmental factors.

This is an excellent question and it's really hard to say. I would focus more on how we can help our own children with their specific needs. To learn more, visit my resources page here: MaryBarbera.com/resources.
