The real question though is, what would that event planner have said about this Mezzo-Forte? It does look like the same colour as a wooden one, but the F holes and the head will definitely look wrong visually, on pictures or whatever, same as was the colour of a black carbon fiber cello compared to a wooden one. I would be curious to know whether it would fly by them or not.

As far as I’m aware the Lewis & Clark doesn’t have a wood finish option. Since they’re the OG brand and 2Cellos made them mainstream and cool, they probably don’t need to have a wood finish option 🙌

I’m so grateful you did these videos!!! I’ve been stuck in my house for awhile and I would love to be able to outside to play. Do you think both mezzo forte cellos play similarly and the sound is comparable? Thank you for your time and doing the videos!!!!

Yay! I’m so happy you enjoyed my videos 🤗 I personally really enjoy the sound of the mezzo-forte design line cellos (I can’t speak for the evoline), I feel like both design line cellos(the black one and the wood finish one) have the same sound/playability. The only annoying thing is that this brand doesn’t project very loudly so it’s not very fun to practice on, but personally I’d take a nice tone over projection. It really depends on what to intend to use these cellos for. If you’re primarily playing acoustically and outdoors maybe the Lewis & Clark is a better fit 👌 But for me, I need something to use for outdoor gigs(not for practicing) and typically there’s amplification so in that case this cello is right for me. I hope that’s helpful ☺️

@@StephanieJaimes thank you!!! Super helpful. I’m a newbie. Just started learning The Swan Suzuki book 6. I probably will never be performer caliber. Im looking for a cello I can play outside … might be better if it’s not too loud. I just really want to be able to play outdoors at my house or for my mom at her senior living place. I’ve had some health stuff so forced to avoid crowds and stuff. The cello has been my Godsend of late I truly appreciate your videos and opinions. You are an amazing cellist - super cool chops!!!

I have both the Mezzo-Forte Design Line and the Forte3D. I'd say that the Forte3D is a slightly different instrument due to how the sound projects. When I play the F3D, the sound seems to rest comfortably around me and I feel that I'm not projecting, thus I tend to play louder and louder. Some friends who tried it felt like the sound comes from behind them. It's quite an interestingly strange feeling 😊

@StephanieJaimes Very interesting what you say about MF's lack of projection and loudness. I own a MF violin and had the same experience initially - but then I experimented with the bridge position a bit and the instrument really, REALLY opened up, to the point where it overpowers all other instruments in my band (even when the're amplified and I'm not). Seems that MF don't bother to find the perfect positioning of the bridge and soundpost, they just put them in the default location and call it a day. Which is a shame, really. Maybe it would be worth it to find a luthier who could do these adjustments for you.
