The NATA is a beast!

It absolutely is! Even after a year of heavy use as my only wood processing tool this thing still hasn't needed to be sharpened and looks almost like new!

II’ve been heavily debating whether I should get the Silky Nata. I own a Silky big boy and that is a fantastic saw. My current chopper is the Ontario SP8 and I really like it because it’s versatile and I don’t mind the weight on my belt. Also what size of the Nata blade would you guys recommend?

The nata is an awsome blade and well worth the price. The 240 is what I would recommend!

ZimCo Survival Thank You 😊 I think I will go for the 240 and test it alongside my Ontario regarding how long it keeps it’s sharpness. Btw Have you ever used the Ontario SP8?
@ZimCoSurvival
@ZimCoSurvival 5 жыл бұрын
I haven't personally but I have had friends with them so I have kind of used them. If I were to compare the 2 I would say the Ontario is a mid level chopper that can be used in other applications to "some" extent. The Nata on the other hand is much better at chopping and general wood processing but lacks the versatility of the sp8. In the end however the nata will win over the sp8 in pure chopping applications and its built like a tank making its overall longevity much higher in hard use. The Ontario can't compare in a head to head chopping match with the nata but will win in the jack of all trades competition.

The new upgraded NATA is the all-black NATA Outback Edition with better sheath. SKS-51 (JIS) steel and is double-edged.

I bought my silky nada from Canadian prepper and it is a fantastic tool, however I think that is mostly designed for delimiting and hatchet kind of work not chopping big blocks of wood like most people show

Chopping anything more than an inch or two in diameter is extremely inefficient compared to sawing, but the NATA is still a good tool. I have two Silky saws for when I need to section a piece of wood.

That was a great review. Thanks for the time you put into all the details of this review (eg. cutting paper after chopping wood), and also the depth of your commentary (eg. the details on why they chose to make the blade handle removable).

Yes very much so. Learning the reason the handle is removable was also something I learned

Great informative video. Thanks. Just one thing: in chopping that cherry log, the width of your chopping area was too narrow. Your left and right margins should be as far apart as the diameter of the log. The reason is that lets your chops chip out material from the middle. By making your chopping area too narrow, you make a lot of extra work for yourself. Most of the chopping you do in the center would not be necessary, because that wood would already have chipped out.

I honestly didn't think that it would still take the paper like that after the Cherry wood. Mine jsut came in the mail today. Just waiting to get home from work to play with it!

Great video. In Japanese homestores they retail between ¥6000 -¥7000 so the retail price in the U.S is pretty decent I’d say. I use the Gomboy and I’m gonna put aside my Husquvana hatchet and invest in a Silky Nata.

I have 2 silky saws Gomboy and Bigboy folding saws and use for logs like your cherry. I would use the nata to split. An Axe or hatchet may be better at chopping your cherry because of weight of the head and the wide angle on the back of the blade.

Excellent review. I have another theory about the unique rubber handle. If the handle is rigid it must be fixed perfectly and permanently to the tang. We had to send an Ontario chopper back because after using it for a few weeks a little bit of play developed in the handle. It was very slight, but I figured it would just get worse, so back it went. As long as it doesn't get deformed by heat, I would expect the nata handle to keep firm against the tang.

The problem with these compared to a hatchet is where the weight's focused. a hatchet will delimb/split better, it wedges harder in 1 spot the nata is better for clearing brush though while still being a decent hatchet an axe chops better than either. All in all it's a use-case tool but if you're clearing some small brush and splitting a nata isn't a bad choice. I'll probably just use a hatchet though, I have a knife/machete for brush and prefer the way a hatchet splits.

May be good on small branches and brush; but doesn't appear to be worth a damn on that log! I am sure it is of good quality, but it is a machete not an axe.
