The perfect everyday wear watch?! Citizen NB1050-59L

Citizen NB1050-59L my first JDM imported watch!
Is it worth going to the effort of importing this watch from Japan? In this review, I discuss how easy (and expensive) it was to get the watch. It only took about 10 days to get to me which is great!
There are so many positives with this piece, but there are also many things you need to be made aware of, so I hope this review helps you.

Don't take this stuff about talking too much to heart. There's loads of watch content on KZbin and a few factors that differentiate it: quality of shots, access to brands, etc. But personality is a big one and that's why I'm here. I could watch a Japanese video about this watch with the sound off if I was that bothered; but I can't be the only one who watches your videos because they're your videos - with everything you bring to them. That’s a great find Dan. I agree that the western market isn’t getting the better looking models from Citizen. I bought a JDM Citizen NP4020 from a fellow in British Columbia. Sapphire crystal, solid end links, decorated automatic movement, etc. It set me back $50. I might never see that kind of deal again. Cheers.

Citizens beauty, look here Seiko, thats the way you produce a watch and a great movement. Look at the decoration of the movement, thats the reason I think CITIZEN is japans No.1. And then the pricing, do you really want to compare a 4r or even a 6r to this movement? Hell NO. No chance. What a beauty! By the way, Im not bothered by the "wobble", its not even a subject to me. I like it. Im into accuracy and I find Citizen watches more accurate than others.

I bought a JDM Citizen diver recently from the same website you used and got stung £70 import tax. But it's still well worth the money. Citizen seem to keep all their best designs for Japan just like seiko used to. Hopefully that changes soon.

Nice review Dan, just found it for £338, I've had 2 JDM watches but the customs are a bit of a sting in the tail, design wise it reminds me of my Oceanus S100, but a really classy looking watch, and did I hear you say you wore this watch for work, you're a braver man than me, cheers...stay safe

I’d go for one of the The Citizen watches with a white or silver dial and the A060 high-frequency quartz movement. No battery as there’s a photovoltaic cell under the dial. Probably in the £1400 range for one of the cheaper models but 5 seconds a year accuracy. Yes, I’m an accuracy fiend.

Solar means battery. In Citizens case they are a little sneaky for calling it a capacitor, but it's a battery, that needs changing every 10 years or so. I also go for solar powered watches, but usually with the radio wave functuon, so its always accurate to the second. Can recommend having a look at the Oceanus line from Casio. Maybe an S100 for a daily beater? Your The Citizen seems too nice for that to be honest

Bought one. Watch is great but the bracelet is very light (doesn’t feel solid or have the weight you would expect) so I ordered a strap that I’ll swap it for. Edit: This watch actually became the gateway to the Citizen HAQ offerings and, after my purchase of an AQ4080, is now relegated to a spot in my nightstand.

Big fan of this model , I grabbed a white dialed SARX075 / Sharp edged series, along with a Blue Dialed Tissot Gentleman and even though I love the shade of blue this beauty comes in I just ordered a Black dialed 59e to complete the trio, all relatively the same dimensions and classic dial layouts but I think this Citizen with the slightly decorated 9 series fly’s underneath the radar, maybe not now after this video ….but it’s a really sweet piece at a decent price. Love when Citizen builds these simple but classy looking everyday watches. The only thing I wish a lot of brands wouldn’t cut corners on are bracelets, I wish they’d slap on a better bracelet & clasp even if it meant adding a couple more bucks If they want to get greedy. Unpopular opinion: stamped clasp bodies are amazing. The user experience of a full milled clasp is great, sure, but the slim profile of stamped clasps is just so much nicer to wear. Combine that with milled internals and you're singing.

Beautiful looking watch. Am quite tempted by this one. However, am looking for a quartz watch at the moment. Wish they did an eco-drive version of this design. Btw your presentation and communication with the viewer is great as well as the in-depth reviews! That said whatever channel I watch these days is normally done at 1.5x speed 😉

I was looking at the black version of this watch because I love the Citizen Chronomaster and this one is really close to its design. Citizen makes several poor man’s Chronomasters but there’s always something that puts me off. Like an odd case, crown guard, minute track or like in this case the baton hands. I guess Citizen doesn’t want us to have an affordable Chronomaster. Anyway Dan, keep up the great work. 👍

I like the case a lot. The watch, as a whole, not so much. Better dial design and finish, better bracelet, that would have made this one an absolute winner. Double the price, it would still be worth buying it, if Citizen upgrades the lesser aspects of this piece.

For the price, this watch has it all! I'm shocked. A nice dial, beautifully finished movement, and a well finished case! Some watches only have one or two elements down, but this one is real deal! It's been awhile since the review. How's the bracelet holding up so far?

Nice watch. I just bought a Citizen quartz budget model with that same sort of styling. I paid 77 dollars for it. It is 42mm wide. I think I need to categorize mine as a fake. It looks too good to be as cheap as it was. I like this sort of watch style a lot but since I have about 10 watches I did not want to spend 500 dollars on a single watch so my quartz budget model fits the bill for now. Your watch is beautiful. You have a lot of watches. Will you get much of an opportunity to wear it?

Not bad, but 500 quid for a Citizen? The blue dial San Martin SN020-G limited edition is similarly sized and specced (date or no date), 20mm lugs, 4 micro-adjustments and is about half the price.
