I wouldn’t rule out Neves as the statement signing; Bruno will be Portugal’s new captain. Dalot looks like a really personable character. I think they could dangle the carrot. Bayern getting Palhinha, City/Real both have CDMs and Barca won’t stump up the fee. Midfield of Neves, Mainoo & Fernandes would be incredible. All 3 tenacious, technical and an eye for a pass. It’s not physically imposing but neither was Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta. We’d finally see a midfield capable of dominating possession and resisting the press

The best partner is someone that's press resistant and a line breaking vertical progressive passer to help the team with build up, and a force defensively that can cover a lot of ground when out of position. These are aspects that Mainoo lacks.

I like Palacios. Would just prefer more physicality along Bruno and Mainoo as well as Areal strength. If they want to go short term hijacking Palhinha is an idea. Long term there are other options that would probably be cheaper like Fofana, K Thuram, Kone etc. Onana's lack of interceptions and the fact he normally has Gueye behind him worry me as the main 6.

Fofana is more of a nr 8. We need a number 6 next to Kobbie that is aerially dominant (needed with Licha and Kobbie in the team) and one that can do the dirty work so Kobbie can shine. This is why I would go for Amadou Onana (or a similar profile).
