I'd love to know your thoughts on this printer, what do you guys think? I wish most thermal printers used more Eco-friendly Cartridges in there products! When printing postage labels, can you just print them straight from your mobile through the eBay app? Like you can on a home printer connected to the same wifi?

I just got the GK420D, I've been trying to find software for it to design my own labels, I don't know if there is a program for that model? The new eco printer does sound good.

Gk420D is a MUCH better pickup than their new lineup. Stupid proprietarycartridge design and over over over priced labels. You can get FREE from UPS or FedEX, WHY pay for them. Zebra got a label design software called zebra designer, but its much easier to just do it in Photoshop or so.

I'm using Bartender software, which can connect with datasources such database, Excel, etc. It does the job for us.

Thanks for a very in depth review. I've been trying out this printer but have a real issue with longevity of the printed labels which is not limited Zebra. Because they are thermally activated labels they tend to 'orange' over time while the printed text/images start to fade. Obviousy for shipping labels this is not an issue as the label will have done its job within a few days. However, for labelling items around the home it becomes an issue. For example I labelled two large bottles which, while not in direct sunlight, do sit in the open in a bright room. The labels and printing have unfortunately faded to the point where they're barely legible. So for me the Zebra printer is good for short-use labels, I'm just aware of the limitations of this technology.

Hey, I bought this printer, but I can’t figure out how to turn it off. When I press the power button it prints a blank label. I just had to unplug it. Is there a better way to turn it off?

I can print the shipping labels direct from Royal Mail's web page, which is ace. But for items going abroad, RM also generates a Customs form on the same page. Does anyone know of an easy way to print the Customs form to the Zebra? At the moment I'm saving RM's PDF, editing it manually to crop to the Customs form, then printing that - but there has to be an easier way.

No unfortunately not! Actually I didn't even think of this when I filmed and wrote down my list DAMMIT, that probably would have been on a con list, Im still yet to find any stickers with recyclable backings! I hope that they manage to develop something! Can you recommend any?!

Nooo I just bought a cheaper brother label printer LOL. This is a really interesting printer though. I'm not sure I like the bluetooth though. I prefer a direct hookup with the computer, especially when it comes to installation. For what it is, the price is fairly affordable compared to their usual models. Maybe that'll be my next step up in the future, or by the time I need another their bigger models will be more eco friendly, too!

Thanks for the review! :) The printer looks really nice but any OBA customer of Royal Mail gets the label rolls for free from Royal Mail directly and they come without any packaging whatsoever which is even better. :)

Oh really! I definately would say this is more catering to the smaller hobby business or home office! If your a larger small biz I think a different machine like the zebra I’m using might be better!

I didn't even know they *could* come with plastic cartridges because we've always ordered ours with no packaging from the Royal Mail online business supplies. - Catherine do you get your postal sacks from the online mail supply shop? Look up "thermal labels" on the same store and you can get as many as you need delivered free to your address. :)

Oooh, that would be a big, big plus point in my eyes, particularly in my soaping business as all my labels, packaging etc are recycled/recyclable/biodegradable. It goes to show that it can be done. If they would do that with the “normal” printers too, that would be great. I’m thinking of getting a thermal label printer soon so I’ll definitely consider this one. Are the cartridges really pricey?

The cartridges retail for around £17-£21 including VAT! So they are pricier than cartridges I’ve used before! I think this definately would cater more toward a home office/small business/side hustle, if your printing tonnes of labels I probably wouldn’t reccomend this printer! We’re currently using it for our smaller business though and have been loving it so far! Xxx

You could always get this printer and have custom thank you post cards to put in the order. They are cheap enough to have made and you can still write a personalized thank you note.

I’ve had a google but hopefully they told you, are the actual labels recyclable? Most thermal labels are not :( and I can’t find anything saying that these zebra labels are, which means your customers need to rip them off their boxes to be able to recycle them.. but I’d love to be wrong!

Could never get mine to connect to wi-fi, kept saying about a firewall, zebra were no use neither was my isp, they just say it’s not their fault it’s the others. So it never got used and back in the box, waste of money for me.

Even though I don't get any sells I love getting eco friendly or something close to it for my business! I'm happy to see more ecofriendly alternatives to the noneco-friendly things. Kind of sad they probably won't work with 3rd party thermal paper as I was planning on using eco-friendly thermal paper for my thermal printer.

So you can't just open up your phone and print directly that way? You have to be signed into their app AND a computer? Or is the computer needed just for the first step? Hard pass if you need a computer to print the labels, if that's the case there's very little use for the system being bluetooth or wifi

My concern is the labels themselves, are they actually eco friendly? Most labels aren't, the coating is harmful to wildlife, and the backing isn't recyclable. I use labels from Priory direct with my second hand big zebra label printer (the GK one which i got for £100 on ebay) which have a coating made from vitamin c that doesn't hurt wildlife. The backing still isn't recyclable, but it's a step forward!

I'm only seeing other comments about the label backings not being recyclable, but I haven't even been able to find *labels* that were recyclable. I really want my full packaging to be able to go into the paper waste, including the label, so I haven't been able to switch to a thermal printer yet. I'm not holding my breath, since it doesn't seem like the website mentions anything about it, but do you know if the actual labels themselves can go into the paper waste? Otherwise this printer is kinda useless to me :c

This is greenwashing. I use a rollo label printer so I can use whatever labels I want (just like many other label printers). No cartridges necessary. No plastic, no potato starch, just rolls of labels. I use EcoEnclose shipping label rolls which have 100% recycled and curbside recyclable liner backing, so you're not throwing away hundreds to thousands of label backs per year. It takes up a little more space and isn't as pretty, but it gets the job done. If they weren't trying to market it as green this wouldn't be an issue. I love the design and compactness of it. But the greenwashing and gimmick to get you to buy their cartridges makes this a huge no for me.

Zebra don’t actually market this as eco friendly as there main selling point! , it’s just what I found personally as the consumer of it, sorry! I should of been a little more clear I think with this! This is a scam. You first need to link a printer to an account with your phone... YOU MUST ENABLE location services for the app, to print labels? Complete waster of time, do not encourage this type of bs behaviour from corporations

Not sure why we need a cartridge at all, other than to tie the consumer into buying overpriced original labels. The cartridge might be compostable but it still takes energy to create them. The big strength of Zebra was always the flexibility of using any label but not with this. Sorry Zebra, you have sold your soul to the devil
