I been meaning to comment on that for awhile. A mother-son actually enjoy being around each other? Granted my mother passed when I very little, but there was no togetherness in my family. We didn't talk, we didn't express anything to each other unless blind drunk and in a fit of rage. Kind of fucked me up. I am glad other people can at least enjoy something, I'm on the outside looking in.

@@TheLegendOfOblivion I understand you so well, both my parents were deeply disfunctional which makes me truly enjoy seeing bonds like Nick and Jen have, it warms my heart when people who are so fortunate value what they have and do not just take it for granted.

When they briefly saw the sunlight, they were only in the "Eye of the Hurricane" - the point where all the storms converge (basically the heaviest and deadliest part of the Storm, hence the fatal 100ft rogue wave they ultimately encounter). They stood no chance whatsoever of making it out and the Captain knew it at that moment. Thank you for the reaction and best wishes.

The Coast Guard Ship was the USS Tamaro. The helicopter crew was from the New York Air National Guard, and the crew member that was lost was TSgt. Arden "Rick" Smith. His remains were never recovered. The movie is based on the book "The Perfect Storm" by Sebastian Junger. It's a very good book, and I highly recommend giving it a try.
@jeffpope32212 ай бұрын
Author Sebastian Junger admitted that everything that happened on the Andrea Gail after Capt. Tyne's last radio call with Linda Greenlaw is speculation. I have lived in Gloucester my whole life and grew up with Bobby Shatford. The storm really only became known as the Perfect Storm after the book came out.

Since you guys like pointing out actors from other movies you’ve seen them in, here are a couple from this one. Irene was Jo’s mom at the beginning of Twister, Bugsy was the clerk at the beginning of From Dusk Till Dawn. A movie with George Clooney that doesn’t seem to get much love but I enjoyed is The Peacemaker. I think you would enjoy it if you’ve never seen it. And btw, didn’t the old guy in the bar look just like the old guy puppet in the bar in Team America? A good Coast Guard movie is The Guardian with Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher.

I read somewhere that Linda Greenlaw’s only real complaint was them portraying that they intentionally drove the boat into the storm. She said they would’ve never done that.

When I went to see this, I already knew the story, but I still came out of the cinema feeling severely depressed, and I was supposed to be going to Central station to book train tickets, I veered off and went to the Gallery of Modern Art to chill for a bit instead. I might have flung myself under a train otherwise!

Re: the sailboat righting itself after being knocked over, they're design to do that, and also the cabin seals completely watertight. It works well enough that when Jessica Watson did her solo around the world at age 16, there was a point during bad weather when she was about 10 metres under water and upside down, but was able to continue on after the storm passed. (The movie of her story is worth a look by the way: True Spirit).

Love this movie! We have a saying in my family now because of this movie. We say he "Perfect Stormed Me". The reason is for it is when my brother, my sister-in-law and I went to see this in the movie theater when it came out. Right as the movie is starting my brother says to us "You know none of them survive right". Umm....no we didn't! I thought someone survived because I figured someone had to come back and tell the story. Ugh, we were so mad at him, lol. So now when anyone ruins a movie for us we call it Perfect Storming someone.

Had a feeling you would spotlight this one sooner or later. Yay. I was surprised to find out this movie isn't as well liked online as I thought it was. I think it's well made for sure, but can understand the gripes with some of the major liberties the film took for the story.
