This is why Kasper Smeichel was good at saving penalties in the CL last season. He is the 1st goalkeeper to save 2 penalties over 2 legs. He fools Balotelli's technique, he goes on the one side than changes the side fast and fools the taker.

Lewandowski hasn't missed his last 13 penalties and uses the same feint technique that Balotelli does. The only difference is that his left foot suddenly stops causing the keeper to dive and his right foot taps it in.

Piotr great analysis but I think you need to redo your % missed. E.g. if balotelli scored 33 but only missed 4. The percentage would've been 4/37 which is roughly 11%. No big deal but i noticed the calculations on some other players were off as well ;) Thanks for the great vid!

For me, the best in this exercise is Super Mario, his calm is obviously insane. Keep Going, it was a good analysis. My favorite penalty ever is from Zidane in World Cup Final in 2006 vs Italia and specifically vs Gigi Buffon.

I use Balotelli's technique from 4th grade.

I have a very simple trick to score every penalty, you have to practice this technique a little as you need to Get used to it and also remain calm. So put the ball down at the spot and walk back like always, just a comfortable distance. Step a little to the left of the ball( if you are right footed). Here is the trick. You have to look at the space between the ball and the goal, somewhere around the 5 yard box, maybe a little more towards the ball. From this angle you will be able to see the GK and the ball at the same time. Then just walk towards the ball. You will find that when walking you have to kinda slow down and adjust your body a little that’s why you start a little to the left of the ball. Keep your eyes on the space between goal and the ball , this will allow you to see the keeper at all times while staring right into the ground. With the inside of your foot place the ball to the side which the GK is not standing, or if you can adjust your body blast it, whatever is best. But if you practice this method with a hard pass along the ground to either side it will be a goal everytime, remember that you don’t give the keeper any hints because you look straight down. And remain calm and focused, the second you strike the ball is the second you have to know where the goalie is

I believe cantona did the same, there are a few videos showing this : "Cantona's secret was watching the goalkeepers knees. Whichever knee bent first, will be the direction the keeper dives. Hence he was able to just roll it in the opposite corner."

Couldn't see any comments about this man but Matt Le Tissier had an amazing penalty technique. He said that he'd always aim to his right (keepers left corner) because he was right footed and it was the natural momentum to shoot there. However, if he saw the keeper moving to his left, he'd simply reverse the shot at the last moment with almost no feint or tell whatsoever. He only missed one penalty in his entire career (48/49 scored). A unique penalty taker you should also look up is Graham Alexander. He would stand straight from the ball being a right footer, implying he'd go to his left (keeper's right) because that was the natural line of shot. He often did this but he also often reversed the penalty using the outside of his foot. He was superb at this. I heard a stat before saying at one point in his career, he didn't miss a penalty for 9 years. Lastly, I might be biased coz I'm an Everton fan, but, Leighton Baines is a tremendous penalty taker, he's only ever missed the one penalty in his PL career to David De Gea (though he did miss a penalty in a shootout against Chelsea)

A really good technique as a goalkeeper is to just before they take the shot shift your balance to one side and then dive the other. Saves me so many penalties and if I don't save them I'm still going the right way.

You should have added Cantona to this vid. He did this technique better than anyone else without the break in run up. The only player i saw who ALWAYS made the keeper dive the wrong way. Except for his two misses of course.

Personally, I studied Hazard's PK taking for a very long while and 8 saw that he always put the ball the opposite direction of the keeper went and I didn't know how he did it. But my theory was that just before he was about to kick the ball, he slowed down (not stopped) his movement considerably then when the keeper paced himself to dive in one direction, hazard played it in the other direct

Once I started using this technique, I never missed either. Way more efficient than just trying to blast it, unless you have a very very powerful and professional shooting technique like Ronaldo, Gerrard, Lampard, etc.

I think balotelli's technique is the best. You need some good reactions for it, but if the kkeper falls for it, it's a pretty save goal. But if he intentionally stands still, he wont be able to make it to the post in time. So he either falls for it and you score, or he doesnt fall for it and you score.

Have you ever tried to analyze Del Piero's penalties ;) In the last few years basically he never missed a penalty even if he was used to shot always in the same top left angle. Right footed usually shot on left side and vice versa.

Yaya Toure has another technique to score a penalty. He never looks at the goalkeeper nor the goal when running up. He says that when you look the goalkeeper and the goal while running up, you give the goalkeeper the information where you want to shoot. Keep your eyes on the ball and kick it. But basically his technique is passing the ball to the net
