What a fantastic idea. As a thrift store junkie, I'll be looking for one of these ( or two) to have here at home for various projects. As I was watching, an idea already came to mind on what I could use this on. Thanks so much!

It’s also the best tool for cutting corn off the cob for freezing! Before the walls were insulated in our house restore, I went around and took pictures of all the walls with a sign up showing which cardinal direction the wall was and which room, so we could go back and see exactly where all the wires and plumbing was for hanging pictures, etc. we’ve used them quite a few times.

Good tip. And for the example of the angle bracing cutout, or similar, you could use a scrap of 2x4, or whatever size you're cutting for, as your gauge. Make a couple of basic Mark's for one edge, then lay the board on that angle. You can follow both edges, no measuring. Estimate the thickness for depth, then use your board on the ground to check that fit.

Cool splitting bats. Had a yard sale carving knife for foam padding in my shop for years. Never thought of using it on Rockwool. Serrated kitchen knife works pretty good on those bats. It cuts like cake. Hope you never have to deal with antique rock wool when remodeling. Hasmat suit required!

I've removed old rock wool. It was not an impressive insulation. Kind of wimpy and non-insulative as I recall. No one was much concerned about any hazardous dust when I got started in the building trades. I have breathed in a lot of bad things, which is probably why I've developed a serious sensitivity to dusts. I bought a shockingly expensive 3M PAPR Air Purifying Respirator a few years ago and it helps but some particles still get through and affect my respiratory system. Thanks for the comment.

You forgot to mention the part that after 20 cuts. The blades get dull from whatever is in the Rockwood And no longer cut and simply tear

That has not been my experience.

It’s a mineral fibre so it’ll eventually wear a bit. Keep the serrated edge, if you lose it after sharpening it’ll feel dull while cutting. Also if after 20 cuts it’s dulling, less floor more RockWool while cutting? 😅 I hold the batt upright so the knife never touches wood, nails or concrete…or bread anymore. 😊
