Jared I tried to explain to my friend that my manfroto 502 fluid head is superior to a gimbal for panning on flying birds andreally right stuff would have to copy manfroto s design. On the dampening system to get it even close every gimbal I’ve seen and used has very little control when it comes to panning like the video head manfroto has in there line up and for 200 bucks you can’t go wrong I’ve. Just ordered a jobu knock off I know they are all the same but it’s similar to the RRS gimbal at 1/4 o f the price I like your honesty and. I doo t get freebie sent to me so I do a lot of review reading and KZbin reviews from people like you.to get the most out of every dolllar I spend and ide rather put that money in my gas tank than a money gouging company with over priced gear . I hope you do a manfroto 502 fluid video head review in the future not for me but for all the unbelievers I agree sadly but it might be the way of the future with video kelly w

I have the 500 Mannfrotto. Pretty good all around. Doesn't have the adjustable tension for the horizontal axis. But smaller. Only paid $160 at B&H just befoere the pandemic shut down. Removed their arca swiis mount & I put Bridge on it by Kirk. 20-30 to rotate it 90* for L-bracket to lens foot. The salesman told me the 502 was better but I was looking at the smaller size. I am just starting to play with video just a teeny tiny bitt.

Wow! $1500 is a huge expense for us non-professional photographers. Maybe you could have one of these as a give away for members of the wildlife journal! 😊

Jared Lloyd Appreciate the honest review. I am in the market for a gimbal head for a 200-400 but this one is a bit out of my budget. Just a “hobbiest” at this point so hard to justify the expense when not making money from the work. Still love the idea of integrating fluid into a gimbal. Have found myself wanting video when out in GTNP/YNP and my rrs bh55 obviously doesn’t cut the mustard in that arena.

How do you mount a camera in portrait orientation on one of these?

I quite agree with you there about video is coming to be a natural part of today's photographer tomorrow. So it is nice that the manufacturers start to find technical solutions. I mostly use a video head because a gimbal is to shaky, even with all knobs locked hard in place and switching between heads are not just any real option out in the field. But for 1500 dollars? Well I don't know if it is worth it. Wimberley gimbals started out rather high in price, but there are a lot of other manufacturers today that produce cheaper ones so I expect that to happen when the market starts to demand fluid gimbals. Great review so I look forward to your next video.

So when you finish "trying with it" I'll be happy to have it...consider it a donation to a struggling wildlife photographer LOL!

Nice honest review but, you might as well take this video down. It is not available anymore. RRS website says under redesign but no available date. Not for nothing but RRS has a lot of stuff on back order or order & wait. No one calls you back or returns any emails. = bad buiss in my opinion. To bad, I have one of their tripods & love it. Anyway, I guess with the economy & supply thing maybe it is when they get enough orders , they come in & start pushing product out. I could use their vertical arm with their pano head. I want it for multi row panos. I could just use a rail(m I have their 192 duo rail set up) , mark some degrees Horizontal & vertical on the vid head(with nail polish or scribe the coating) & just find the nodal point & move the rail without spending a dime. But I like gear. Probably buy one of the Pro media gear gimbals. Could probably get away with the PMG , GT1 Tomahawk with maybe 1 more rail. No rush, time will tell.
