I recently upgraded my Manfrotto monopod to a Sirui and I wanted to share some thoughts about how it works. I also compare its functions to other pieces of camera support such as a tripod, slider and glidecam. This video was shot with the A6300 using an MC-11 and Sigma 35mm F1.4 ART with a couple of shots from my Samsung Galaxy S8.

Great video. I think though monopod can be combined with movement and placed in unique positions. It's not a tripod so we can get creative.

I freaked out from your first few words already! :D I don't think you know much about the business behind selling videos. It's not the gear, it's you're knowledge! The gear can make it easier to work, and can give you more options, but what matter always it's only your creativity!

Thanks for the review - I've been unsure about this monopod because of some bad reviews on Amazon. It seems to break down to a good size 68cms so getting it on to my 'carry on' on planes should help. Plus the info on the video head was very useful.

because having talent, gears and knowledge is one thing, but knowing how to market yourself is more important you can shoot a film about volcano and deep oceans and other dangerous places and get nada, or you can do a tutorial about jpeg vs raw and get 100k views and more if you know how to " sell it" to the audience but what do I know,,,

Thanks for watching! The slider is great. It's the Cameron 80cm CF Camera Slider goo.gl/cYcNbd and it's really smooth. It's so fun to use that I had a few little kids (ring bearers, flower girls) come up and ask to play with at weddings I worked this summer haha

you cant get steady shot out of manfrotto? I've had MVMXPRO500 for few months now and i think it's great, i can get close to tripod steady footage, i can leave it alone too, but not fully extended (i do have quite light camera tough)...so far it's the best piece of equipment i've added to my arsenal

Like I put in the disclaimer slide, I'm not sure it the floor model was a dud, but I tried more than one of them and the leg still moved in its socket when locked. This was with a 5D3 + 24-105 so its possible that it isn't an issue in lighter cameras. I just meant it wasn't a steady shot in comparison. I really wanted to like the Manfrotto one. I mean no disrespect my dude.
@Sundirre
@Sundirre 6 жыл бұрын
Yes i'd does move a little even when locked, but for me it was never a problem, if you need complete lock siriu does seem a better choice. Funny how you like the head? it's the only thing i don't like with this mono, the "spirit level?" is hard to see, and there is no rotation at head only at legs...
@CrazyLightsProductions
@CrazyLightsProductions 6 жыл бұрын
I don't really have an issue with the level an I can sort that out with level displays on my camera when I need to. I like the counter-balance when using larger lenses and I like the ease of taking it off, putting it on. I do have rotation at the head though, I wish you could set resistance but the next model up where you can is a lot bigger and heavier than what I was looking for.
@photosfromphilly
@photosfromphilly 6 жыл бұрын
I found the legs too narrow and the base feet too short to stop movement. It takes about five - seven seconds for the wobbling to stop. I wouldn't recommend the manfrotto combo. I like the head but I'm considering the sirui because of the longer feet. Additionally, I wouldn't leave the camera alone on monopod without being ready to catch it. The review was informative and confirmed my feelings toward the manfrotto head and legs combo deal.

Great review, thank you. I just think it needs to be said that you most certainly will get paid using an 18-55 kit lens. You also don't have to look like a professional to be valued or treated as a professional. Let's take someone who is getting married, and they are searching for someone who will capture their amazing day. What are they looking for? The guy that has a 5D w/e with a slew of lenses and camera support? Or are they looking at their content? Does it matter if you have the most amazing gear if you're producing shit? What if I told you my t2i with a kit lens told a better story than someone who just bought an ARRI Mini and shot the same thing? The client doesn't care, they just want two things: to work with someone they like and that person produces great work. Before you get hired for any of these gigs, they first check out your reel and previous work. If they like it, next they will contact you. If they like you, it's a good chance you get hired and they won't have a damn clue what gear you're rolling up with. And when you do roll up with that gear, I presume they will think that whatever it is you're using will produce the same quality content as what you have presented. They will have no complaints, so long as you discretely consume that champagne. Of course, this also means you are charging what is fair for the value you offer.

It is just a complete crap tool It wobbles around like crazy, not sturdy whatsoever the lower joint at the feet is just wobbling like crazy. Would not recommend it to anyone for its price. Go for the sirui it seems more stirdy. I Wanted it to convert with a element pod from Manfrotto (this is build with quality) the joint of this monopod is just utter crap for camera use.
