I was Finally able to put together a video to officially show KZbin my 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ. This Jeep embodies my ambition to create an XJ that could roll off the assembly line in the present day. This Cherokee has most of my favorite custom 1 off XJ mods that I have developed over a decade time of owning Cherokees. Hope you enjoy!

Mine blew up at 152k. Shot at least 2 rods and had 3 holes in the block and 2 in the oil pan. I'm assuming the owner before me didnt take good care of the motor, but I put in a high output engine with 120k miles and it runs beautifully.

The ideas here are great, as a Jeep owner for the last 23 years, I can appreciate the custom work that can be done to XJ, WK, and ZJ Jeeps which are very cheap to buy in the UK and maintain if you pick the right ones that have not been abused too much. I run a WK 5.7 HEMI on LPG which gives me the same running costs as a small car.

Beautiful Jeep! I had a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport Black. Almost 2 years ago it was stolen and when the police found it, it was totaled. Now it wasn't perfect by any stretch but ran great and it was black. I had it for 20 years. Maybe one day if I could ever afford it I'll get another one, but I don't have mechanical skills or the money to buy one and fix it up. I'm 70 so it may never happen, but I can dream.

@@ProjectDanH There will come a time when the dreaded death rattle or death wobble will come for your beloved. You must power through it. It will be a test of your love for your beloved XJ. Many abandon their solid front axle vehicles when the death wobble comes for their vehicle. I regrettably did this with Murphy, my once loved 1987 Jeep Wrangler YJ. The death wobble came for her and I tried to fix it with changing the drag link and the tie rod. I became frustrated and parted with her in 1994. The person I sold her to said he would fix her and love her. That was a lie. He took the lift off, the wheels, and engine and built up his Wrangler. To this day, I can not look at a picture of my dear Murphy and not feel sadness. The fact that I got a nearly new cadillac to be my vehicle after abandoning my Murphy makes it worse. I went from a vehicle that was a part of me, alive with the love I put into her, full of fun, personality, and joy to a sterile appliance that sucked the soul from me every time I went somewhere. In 1996, I sold the cadillac and got my current Jeep, a 1997 Wrangler TJ. At first she was just a baby and needed to grow to develop into a wonderful friend. She was paid in full 2001. Then I began growing her into the beauty I have today, nourishing her, loving her, becoming best friends. The dreaded death wobble / death rattle came for my dear Windi two years ago. Gradually getting worse until last year I replaced the four ball joints, the tie rod, the track bar, and drag link. We can go out together again but there is still a trace of the death wobble. We will power through this together. Never turn your back on your beloved, even if someone promised to love her when you part ways. Do not live that regret the rest of your life. I owe it to my deceased Murphy never to part with Windi and to love her through all the hard times as well as the best times. I love Windi so much that it sometimes hurts to know that she could never love me back. But betraying Murphy hurts even more. Others can never understand the deep bond between a a true Jeep lover and their Jeep.
@ProjectDanH
@ProjectDanH 5 жыл бұрын
@@indridcold8433 Indrid Cold that's the realest jeep testimony I've ever heard. Thanks for sharing your story. Take heart knowing the spirit of Murphy lives on through Windi. Please don't regret your past, you must realize that it is the JEEP that shapes US, not the other way around. Murphy was preparing you for Windi. It reminds me of a quote from John the Baptist as Jesus began his ministry... He said that I must become less and less so that He can become more and more. I believe that all the years of experience with XJs led me to owning this Cherokee and I wouldn't be able to fully appreciate it without the Cherokees before it. Thanks again for sharing and remember love conquers death wobble!

Looks similar to mine, mine has 166k on it and somehow hardly any rust. Love to see these things still on the road. The engines and trans's run forever. Rust is the biggest enemy to XJs, it's hard to find them not beat up and offroaded. Mud is basically a sponge for moisture and guys go offroad and don't clean the undercarriage and they rot bad.

Very nice XJ. I have a 2000 myself. If you start blowing head gaskets, the heads on the 2000s were defective. If I remember right the casting code was 0330. They have micro fractures in the steel which become a problem at about 80,000+ miles. My solution was to replace the head with a 96’ head, and aftermarket stainless header.
@ProjectDanH

Nice XJ, but sorry to tell you the 2000-2001 XJ's have the faulty 0331 cylinder head that was known for overheating and catastrophic failure. That said, best years were definitely 1998-1999. Those years still had the newer styling with best suspension, gearing, and the reliability XJ's were known for. My personal favorite is the 1999 XJ 2DR 5SPD.

I bought a 1999 Cherokee Limited 2WD new and loved it. I'm not an off roader or mechanic, so I left it stock. On a trip to New Orleans in 2000, it got hit twice in the rear end - once in hotel parking lot and again in Houston during a rainstorm. I took it to the dealer where I bought it, but it was never the same. I think the frame was bent but wasn't fixed. In any case, it was a great vehicle, and I had two more Jeeps after that one. The 2003 Grand Cherokee was a very good little beast, but the 2007 GC was a lemon. I liked Jeeps, until that experience. I might look at them in the future (if I live long enough), but I doubt than any of their new engines will be as reliable as the old 4.0 liter. Fond memories of the first two.

That's insane and just about genius. I'm in SC but just got a blk '99 out of NY with 150 and minimal rust. Thinking about what can be done & that's inspiring. The mean lights don't look as stupid as some I've seen, like on Wranglers, and the lamps are great...but maybe the point is that XJs are serious vehicles (with 4X4 & other design that mechanics swear by) without having to look mean? I got my first XJ 5 years ago, $500, 230K, had been sitting in somebody's yard for years. It was still running fine at 300K but was murdered in an interstate accident last year. When I got out of the hospital and was able to drive again I got another one(friends said I must have been brain damaged in the accident...?) That one was $3K but I could pay cash for it(cleaned out savings, paid medical bills and another old Jeep) But old Jeepers are now a cult, what's left of them. CO and CA prices are crazy(10-20K), and I even saw a 110K mile XJ go for more than $15K in SC recently.
