Yeah right but the rest of our neighbors could be even higher.. Vietnam could be at $4 trillion at the time, Indonesia by the way is a trillion $ economy already, so they will be at around 10T to 15T already. As if the rest of the world will not improve as well. The Philippines, because of the yearly calamities due to typhoons, will be in fact have the lowest growth rate.

Too much corruption, nepotism, cronyism and protectionism. Protectionism protects only inefficiency, poor competitiveness and low productivity. The most dynamic economies in the world are most often seen in the least protectionist countries. International companies will also not invest in the Philippines in significant numbers unless more barriers are lifted and more reforms are enacted. And companies need to be left alone and not interfered with as much.

Besides, Vietnam economics model is adopted from China and Korea, with improving R&d, hdi, hci, which is vital for escaping the middle income trap. While the Philippines refuses to have any good fdi, doesn't build its manufacturing sector, don't invest in education and use unsustainable growth as a way to grow via cheap labor, foreign money which contributes to the brain drain. I suggest you actually do research on economy before speaking, because just looking at the economic model alone is enough to answer the question. Vietnam becoming a developed nation is not guaranteed, but it is far more promising than the Philippines, which will be stuck hard when the middle income trap becomes reality
