I disagree. The fact that we've been under lockdown the longest in the world and not have incurred public unrest of the levels seen in the western liberal world shows how we lean authoritarian more (at least relative to the latter) or at least not as resistant. There are rarely any opposition to legislation that give more power to the government. The legislation against anti-political dynasty for instance. That grossly limits the choice of the Filipino voter. It should be theirs to decide if they want to vote for a member of a dynasty, for better or for worse. The cybercrime law is boomer censorship of a space they will never understand but Filipinos laud for "protecting" us.

People from other countries complain about their politicians being ideologues; in the Philippines, ideology is almost unheard of. Political parties are not really political parties. Politicians almost always share the same platform and it is usually pro-poor. Here, people vote for a politician due to his popularity, charisma, family, or if he is an "outsider", the family he affiliates himself with. _Family reigns supreme, even in politics._

I don't have the best understanding even as someone who is a Filipino American, but from what I see and research, I feel like Filipinos just don't lack ambition from the ground up and don't see the world outside their bubbles. I mean look at how the country is run and how these politicians act, they just scream like people who care about small trivial gains like their own money and being popular within their circle than competing against the best like China, South Korea, Singapore, and Japan. It's sad because I believe witnessing Filipinos here in America from my family to others, that Filipinos are capable of competing against the best. Problem is these politicians in the Philippines seem literally low IQ and probably don't see how people outside the country think very highly of them. If these politicians and citizens had this understanding, developed a better culture and ambition, I think the country can see growth. It's obviously not simple and the country doesn't need to be a superpower. if they can just be a simple developed economy, it would be really great and I think it's possible if Filipinos stopped feeling inferior and get worked up on silly small things. There is obviously way more to these issues that I don't totally get, bit for me this is how I see it. They sell themselves short from everything. They literally don't care how the cities look, constant poverty everywhere and being compared to China or poor African countries, and not being strong in other political factors. I mean even in things like sports. Sports can at least give citizens of a complicated country some pride and something to feel prod about like in many South American countries and even African countries, but Philippines does nothing. I love basketball and it's my favorite sport, but Filipinos spend more time on it in bad ways and don't even invest in sports like soccer (football) that can help them compete. They don't even give the citizens any green space or any place to exercise in general. Simply put again, the Philippines just has no leadership.

The sad thing is, many of us Filipinos are misinformed and adamant as to what information to receive. And its even scarier when educated people with power support the people who are double faced. Honestly, you cannot blame those who support Marcos Jr. because they have high hopes that PH will be better. But Marcos Jr. does not have the education and experience as the late dictator (most of Marcos Jr. supporters always say that he'll continue his father's works). Heck,, Bongbong does not attend debates by well-known organizations. I just hope, I genuinely hope that this coming elections, officials will bring positive/progressive change to the Philippines.

Well, history is written by the Victors and you cannot blame the people since majority of them is tired of an extremely failed governance by the past administration. Even if you won't admit it, the likes of Duterte changed the standards of being the president for the people, and also they see that only Marcos Jr. is the only genuine presidential candidate to continue that progress. Plus, the other candidates did not even condemn the CPP-NPA. Maybe there is no chance that you'll agree with me, especially if you already made up your mind. I'm a supporter of the late Miriam Defensor Santiago, btw. and change of governance to the opposition is always a bad idea. If you truly understand the whole plot. Maybe you should also question yourself from time to time, and understand why these candidates are supported by the majority. You see, everyone of us, can be unconsciously manipulated.

If the Philippines sides with the US the region at the moment will be stabilized for some time. If the Philippines sides more with China, things may go south for countries that side with the US. There are only two real contender in this election: MARCOS VS LENI. Those who really dislike Pres Rodrigo Duterte would obviously side with Leni, a lot of them are from entertainment industries and news broadcasting industries. Leni is pulling the younger generation towards her. If she's successful in convincing the youth, she could win this election. Philippines of 2021 no longer have that strong sentiment about the Martial Law so just because Bongbong is the son of the late Ferdinand doesn't mean he could not win this election. Remember that many Filipinos felt betrayed by the Yellow government of Cory and her son Pnoy. That's why Leni stopped using that color Yellow to distance herself from the Aquinos and I think that's a great choice. Using that color, she will never win. Remember that the last election, the Yellow candidates were demolished. So you don't wanna tie yourself with that color. For Leni to win this election, she needs to stop attacking the Dutertes and instead focus on her platform. Attacking the Dutertes would destroy her presidential chance. She needs to to produce a concrete plan for the middle class of this country. Without producing concrete plan she won't win.

One of our main problems is our high dependency on imported oil. This is not sustainable as the oil's price shocks greatly exacerbate macroeconomic variables, such as growth, inflation, poverty and unemployment, which in turn, impedes the country from achieving prosperity. We need leaders with innovative and proactive minds. Just look at Ilocos Norte, despite having a relatively rural economy, it is among the country's top 10 provinces in terms of HDI and it has the 6th lowest poverty rate among 81 PH provinces. Believe it or not, the other 9 provinces in the top 10 list are all adjacent or in near proximity to Metro Manila, where most of the developments happen. Ilocos Norte's performance is commendable since it is located in the uppermost region of the Philippines where it is relatively rural. It is also self-sufficient as it produces its own crops, resources, and renewable energy sources.

I'm Filipino and I live in the Philippines. Applying for a job in Mcdonald's here requires certain clearance such as a criminal record, meanwhile running for a president post only requires you to be a citizen. F*CKING RIDICULOUS, RIGHT?! Officials and Politicians in other countries step down from their positions when they had been allegedly involved in a controversy, in my country? After being convicted and spending time in jail, they run to even higher positions in the government. So to wrap it up, it's the people here who are the problem, not the elites. But are we? Besides, the Philippines has always been a ground for psychological warfare which the U.S government had been using against us ever since they set foot here.

However, as much as we are "politically divided," we have been economically, scientifically, and politically progressing, through the our current rapid economic growth, expandion of our R&D, political reforms initiatives, and more government initiatives that are being in placed. People vote for leaders who are keen to propell their state, Viktor Orban of Hungary keeps getting elected because of his economic and social policies despite being hated by EU States. It's the same here, the Filipino people will vote for Duterte or other similar leaders who are keen to focus on propelling their domestic policies.

With a presidential system, the President remains the same for the next 6 years unless he/she resigns.

@@DGoldy303 Presidential systems are far more unstable in my opinion. 1. The President has unchecked power for 6 years. There is no contest and Impeachment can only apply if they are proven to have committed crimes. Example: Former President G. Arroyo cheated during the elections. She however couldn't be impeached because the only evidence was a wiretapped phone conversation which is illegal under Philippine law. 2. The Opposition is weak and therefore the President has no hurdles to remove them. Example: Chief Justice R. Corona was impeached during then President B. Aquino's term. The lawmakers who impeached him were then exposed for receiving additional funds (PDAF) from the President. There is speculation that CJ Corona was targeted because he voted in favor of the farmers in their case against Hacienda Luisita (The Aquino clans sugarcane plantation)

Can you do a more informative feature instead of this? I feel that instead of providing new insight, this video is just repeating what we all have known for decades - it's a popularity contest instead of a focus on actual agendas and proven track record. And this video panders to that. To help our country share more of the last two instead of mentioning them in passing. (And I just may be annoyed that you provided a liar - false claims and accusations - and corrupt individual the platform. Yes, that cover photo is part of it.)

What I know is that we should strive to improve the quality of our people by way of education. Make them critical thinkers only then can Democracy be not a dictatorship of the fools. The sad part from all of this is that NONE of these candidates have the ability to use critical thinking to lead an uneducated population - winning their hearts and votes like a high school popularity contest. That's because PH voters lack critical thinking skills - and this has always been the case. Did you see the man-on-the-street comments in this video? Trash. All a candidate has to do is win the popularity contest with a bit of song and dance to win. I have yet to see any evidence of voters actually researching the candidate's platforms & agendas. They treat politics as a kind of a joke, when in fact it affects their daily lives.

Pres. Duterte re-schooled and re-educated most of the Filipinos by bringing to surface the real problems and the true identity of the land, not by only domestic but global views, a large scale conspiracies between disoriented natives, oligarchs and foreign mix mindset plague the country, to resolve these he needed to re-structure the frames of democracy, justice, govt systems in domestic and foreign policies. 6 years having gone by one shot is just a dose of the least lesson to learn, filipinos misuse tons their discipline over democracy. Economic govt leverage was sold to the oligarchs by the Marcos successors, and before Duterte held the office, as the result Philippines suffer from internal and external treat. Citizens shaken lost control in determining good and acceptable living they are manipulated by their own choice of actions because they unremembered the history. 67 percent approval rating and popularity from the past years of governance is quite resonates where the heart of the most filipinos are. Philippines is also infinite player in political saga with cause.

One thing you didn’t mention which I believe is the main reason why people chose Bongbong over Leni. Looking back at the term of Aquino which is alliance of Leni. All the failures including the famous Yolanda, the Manila Hostage Crisis, the SAF44 massacre. Aquino denied responsibility on all of those. He even have a lot of failed projects like PNR bathroom with 3 toilet bowls without partition, incomplete bridges due to problems in right of way, the suffocating temporary housing for Yolanda Victims and so many more.I believed that Dutertes performance is better than Aquino. So you can’t blame people to chose someone who could continue Dutertes legacy and someone who’s not against the last president. People are tired on someone like Aquino always blaming the former president for what’s happening and then just doing nothing.

I'm a Fiplipino and the truth really hurts. We are used or contented to what only our past Prime Minister/Presidents can offer. Our minds are conditioned or washed to accept what we think is already the biggest or grandest performances the Leader of a Republic can offer. Because in the days that Internet are not yet at its global coverage we can not compare outright status of our country to others even nearest neighbor countries. We claim to the world that we are a Christian nation..but how about the false teaching that was taken partially from the Genuine Bible and Refill the undesired Gods Words with personal Preferences and then teach it to all suppose to be Christians ! Our God really clearly said, 1 Timothy 6:3-7 [3]If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, [4]they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions [5]and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. ☆[6]But godliness with contentment is great gain.☆ [7]For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. Job 36:11 [11]If they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment.
