Personality politics is still the name of the game in the Philippines. Filipinos view presidents as someone who is like a saviour. We should move away from this thinking and start voting for proper leaders from the presidency down to the barangay leaders. The Filipino people in general tend to vote for personalities (which you mentioned) instead of policies. If the candidate is a nice person, they will vote for that person even if their policies are weak. I'm curious to know, what would you consider a "proper" leader?
@1RockRoyalty12 жыл бұрын
@@Vatenkeist I don't think it would matter what type of government the Philippines implements if you have the same political dynasties running for leadership roles. IMHO, the solution is for people to stop voting for the same political clans running our country. We have complained about corruption for decades and yet the people keep voting for the candidates from the same political clans. Government positions are "handed down" from one family member to another. It's treated like a family business because this is how they enrich themselves, hence the massive corruption...and this is what's wrong with our government. Average Filipinos who actually have the passion to make changes for the better and help develop our country have very little to no chance of winning against well established political dynasties.

In a parliamentary system you vote for party, the words "buntot mo hila mo" sounds true in that system. Even if someone is popular if the fielded candidate of his party stink it will drag them down. I think BBM is popular not because he is a Marcos but primarily due to his support to PRRD (Duterte). Also, compared to other candidates, he said nothing against PRRD. It’s PRRD that people like and the fact that BBM is in tandem with SRD, he benefits from PRRD’s popularity. Why PRRD is popular? It’s infrastructure! Forget the infra projects in NCR. If you haven’t been taking a road trip, try one and you will see smooth and wide roads and bridges in the countryside. I’ve never seen those before when those roads never end. How about the pandemic? I think everyone agrees that the cash assistance provided by the government was the first time that beneficiaries experienced. Who will forget that? (except 4Ps)
@s_mp_082 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you, PRRD is certainly not a perfect president. Though compared to the previous ones we've had, he's the best one so far. If only he can get more term, I would love him to still be our president.

Nah, BBM is popular since he's a Marcos. Want some proof? Look at the former Spox. Harry Roque, he fully supports PRRD even though the former is a human rights lawyer, yet Harry Roque still lost the previous 2019 elections.

Political fanaticism (both far left and far right) destroyed all aspects in the Philippines even its industries and sectors. Those fanaticisms were mainly driven by their overseas workers who worked abroad as slaves by foreigners. So why DW's correspondent is politically biased against Marcoses? News should be politically neutral and should not take any sides. The Philippines is a democratic country so if the people's choice is Marcos..which it seems to be imminent given his wide lead points to a landslide win... then let the people decide so democracy will take its course. It is also false reporting that only those born after the Martial Law are voting for Marcos, as there are many senior citizens, who have experienced Martial Law, are voting for Marcos. The truth is people in the Philippines felt 1986 constitution after marcos did not brought any economic progress for the past 36 years. Older people who live during Marcos Sr. view his regime as better compare to his successors down the line.Thus, their opinion become the reflection of the younger generation, that is why Marcos Jr. have a commanding lead in the surveys. Mainstream media in the Philippines always portray those who in favor of Marcoses as uninformed and easy to sway but the fact is, people always want a strong leader in persona of Marcos Sr. That's why Duterte won despite lack of fund in 2016. Oppositon failed to accept the truth on the ground and chose motherly persona of Leni Robredo, opposition may have a better lead in the survey if they chose Ping Lacson ( the former Police Chief) over Robredo which is a replicate of Cory Aquion (the widow of Ninoy Aquino, the rival of Marcos Sr. assassinate by the Reds but blamed to Marcos by the oligarchs to overthrow him).

@ 6:21 what do you mean guise , we wanted it as we want imperial manila gone and want to decentralize the country to make more growth opportunities in the other parts of the country instead of it being focused in the capital. I still remember Du30 saying hes ready to step down early of the federalization of the country would be passed. Its not a guise to stay longer in power, rather a legit objective to change the constitution for the betterment of the country as this wil provide more power to regions to implement economic policies of their own and their tax revenues mostly stay within their borders, hence they wont need a budget from the central government in imperial manila etc.
@gimozagramos2 жыл бұрын
given that we, as a country, are obviously divided by dialect and culture, and NCR is just profiting off of the resources provided by other regions, federalization is probably the answer. it's not even a matter of land mass. just let the regions be states and let them do their on thing. i'm sick of manila having it all while the rest struggle.

If I will run for Presidency, the first Im gonna do is to give people a purchasing power by raising their salary around Php1k minimum and lower the taxes collected to companies. This way it is guaranteed the general public will benefit for all the tax collected. I'll hire a professionals to do the infrastructures that will save the government with high maintenance and prevent substandard projects the government will hire private consultants or auditors to audit the projects. I will push for charter change that the president will only have 3 years per term and can run twice by doing this we can prevent corruption brewing in because they font have time to commit any corrupt practices. the people have the right to decide the president's career path if he will stay for another 3 yrs or not. I will add financial branch to government to prohibit the president's unlimited access to Public funds that's how corruption started because the funds is being held solely by the President. As you can see now no one in Presidentiables ever have a concrete stand on how they can make the government better. They can see that the constitution has many flaws but never step a foot to correct them. As long the level of illiteracy in Philippines is high, there is now way we can achieve unity just like BBM's slogan. The illiteracy clearly define on this coming election that the majority will still vote for the the person whose family known for corruption for 20 years and reign terror among the Filipinos. The 20 years of warrantless arrest and torture. In economics, they forcibly acquire the corporation that will end up being bancrupt due to incompetence. Most of Filipinos didn't know that since as I've said for being iliterate. Nasa dugo kase natin ang pagiging slave since 400 years tyo na occupy and thanks sa matatapang nating mga bayani pero sa panahon ni marcos naulit uli ang oppression. habang buhay na mangmang ang mga Pilipino or manhid.
