I'll never forget day 1 of my philosophy class, my professor told us how his friend (another professor at a different school) went down such a deep path of philosophy that he ended up taking his own life. He never mentioned what he got into specifically, or whether he was dealing with mental illness, but it's trippy shit to get into. Solipsism especially.

So true,it starts with thinking about something I said or haven’t done , then slowly but inevitably ,thoughts roll around to how myself,or anything exists, who made god(supposing god exists) and why is there anything. Then,as the morning birds begin to sound off, in a bit of an anxious panic, I manage to nod off .

As a philosophy major, much of our education was based on reading and not actually speaking these words or names. Many of the writings are translated from German, French, Greek, etc. The only time we ever heard these things spoken was during lectures, and even the professors differed on their pronunciations. My point is that just because you mispronounce a word or name doesn’t mean you misunderstand it.
@goldmund2902
@goldmund2902 Жыл бұрын
@@robsutton3092 Nobody has accused him of not understanding. I am German, so this sounds just funny in my ears - though, i don't expect anybody to have a perfect pronunciation. Nevertheless, I've heard many wrong pronunciations but these still came unexpected. An though, I mostly agree with your point, it most definitely changes the impression of the entire text that is given. It is the same with misspelling of words. And tbh, I think a philosophy professor should at least try to get the pronunciation right.
@robsutton3092
@robsutton3092 Жыл бұрын
I should not have assumed you were criticizing his understanding of the subject. You were just criticizing him for another form of ignorance. I have done the same thing. You’re right about misspellings, too, though it is easier to perform an automated spellcheck than a pronunciation-check. The mispronunciations in this video were likely due to the fact that he has never or not often heard some of these words and names spoken. The subject matter of philosophy, though underlying and applicable to literally everything, is not a common topic of discussion for most people. Perhaps that should change. As lovers of wisdom, we should be appreciative of attempts at discussing these issues even with mispronunciations.

Philosophical questions stem from the sort of questions that we can wonder about; we can think about producing something, about doing something or about what thinking itself or about nature. Carpenter thinks about producing or making a chair, engineer about something else, builder about building, etc. this isn't called philosophy but art or carft. We think about what to do and this is different from the thinking about making something( the latter has a product that is in the end of the thought, but the former has an mastered action at the end), such as taking care of our loved ones and this is economic philosophy( because we mainly have to earn money and spend it well. "Economic" in ancient Greek means "household economic"), and taking care of the civil society and this is political philosophy. All these kinds of thought have an ethical aspect to them, and are called moral philosophy. We also think about thinking itself in logic where we consider whether a concept is applicable ( predicable) to something or not, as dog is not applicable to Socrates( as we don't say, "Socates is a dog") but man is( as we say, "Socates is a man"). The signs of concepts, like noun and verb and everything in grammar are also included here. The last part studies nature and this can be studied in many ways. All these divisions of philosophy express the order in one way or the other. Natural philosophy the order of nature, logical philosophy order among concpetions and moral philosophy order among action as they stand to some good. Question can be resolved but it takes too much time and effort..

I plan to revisit this video later in the future to see how my world views have changed. I've made a list of every thought experiment, my thoughts on them, and I believe I came out with a vastly different understanding of my own perception and observation than I ever did before. My head hurts but the ways in which I can apply this to my life in the future and be there for others using the arguments against or supporting some of these thought experiments is priceless and I think you for making such a comprehensive and understandable video on such a hard subject to grasp. Thanks a ton!

Nice iceberg, there is definitely something to ignorance is bliss. Existence haunts me at times and I’ve delved down every one of these ideas or questions. An outsider might look at me, aimlessly wondering and perhaps even torturing myself and then compare me to someone with a cognitive impairment who is just happy go lucky. Who has it better off mentally really? I’d never wish for my intellect to go away but sometimes it really is better just not knowing. I’m sure people much smarter than me might look at me the same way.

Snook, the progress is much better and growing rapidly. But my concern stays the same, youre reading on a pace that are way too fast. Before, youre using a safer vocabulary thus the connotations and pronounciation are fine. But on this its apparent, more to me because these type of videos, one like urs to help me focus while doing work. While the video is and content research are getting better, so is the words, but your fast pace sacrifice the pronounciations. Take your time and read the words from your heart bro. regarding the fermi paradox, I've always struggled to see it as a paradox at all. consider this hypothetical situation: you are placed at a random point in the yellowstone national park, and your friend may or may not be placed at random as well, but you're not told if he is or isn't. neither of you know if you're alone or if your friend is out there. whether he's part of the experiment or not, you're tasked with trying to find each other with minimal supplies. you could be on the face of one mountain looking across a valley to another mountain. even if your friend is on the face of that mountain, you may flail your arms or wave a blanket or whatever it might be, but the odds of you noticing him, him noticing you, or (much less) you both noticing each other, are abysmally low. you might. but before all odds, you could spend forever waving your arms out into the open without ever coming into contact with each other. I think that's less of a paradox and more of a lack of proper resources or positioning that would allow for contact at all.

A few geniuine tips for future videos: 1) Go a bit slower, to make sure you don’t stumble on difficult words (you’re talking fairly fast so I don’t think slowing down would make the videos feel sluggish), 2) Read through your script properly before recording so you’re really familiar with it, 3) When in doubt, look up how to pronounce certain words/names (for example ”antinatalist”, ”Sisyphus”, ”Nietzsche”). You’re tackling a lot of tricky words, so it’s understandable you’re not familiar with their pronounciations, just do a quick google before recording. Keep up the good work!

I really love your videos and the topics you choose. If you are open to constructive feedback, please, please, please slow down just a little bit. Don't be afraid to take your time. If you stumble on a sentence, just stop and take a breath and read it again. You can edit out all the slip ups. And also, please take a moment to look up how to pronounce things if you're not sure. You say Nietzsche often enough to say it right. It's like NEE-chuh (emphasis on the first syllable.) It's distracting when you make this mistakes over and over. I just want to be able to listen to what you're saying without getting distracted because I love your content! You're doing a great job!

Watching this video is just a reminder, more specifically towards the idea of knowing less, having a simple, or accepting that there is no answer to "that question" (you have the freedom of choosing) may be more beneficial in the long run. But, At the same time I'm not going to lie, it's intriguing.

uh about the existence of existence question. I get constant nightmares about losing my consciousness through death and stuff, but regardless keep watching philosophy stuff anyway. And what calms me is something I acquired from trying to write books and read Nietzsche. Existence is one big beautiful book. You are the main character of your stage, sure we are tiny, but not according to our eyes. I have decided that at the end of the day trust in whoever or whatever this author is. It has already given us such a beautiful experience, whatever comes are way, I'm just going to have to trust them and play my roll like a pro. Edit: just realized I didn't really answer the question and made a mighty long post, sorry.

I like watching this and relate to it. I aprox. 4 years ago started to have thought about life and what I’m here for, my purpose. I got so deep into it I had anxiety of what was going to happen after this life. My most messed up thought was thinking if after Im dead will I ever see my family again. Will I get lost and never see my family again or get to feel the warmth of my parents? It’s so messed up. That day I remember I got up at 2 am and hugged my mom in bed and told her that I love here a lot. Sometimes overthinking doesn’t do much. Just creates a lot of anxiety. The present and the moment is what matters the most what happens after really doesn’t matter. We don’t know what really waits for us ahead.

The point of life is to spread life. The more we succeed as a species the more me can help other species thrive. The more we can help other species thrive the more we can make our entire plant thrive. The more the species on our plant thrives (including humans) the more the species on our plant will be able to help spread life to other empty planets. The point of life is to spread the gift of live as far across the emptiness of the cosmos’s as one can.

With quantum immortality... one way that one could theoretically get out of it is to intentionally s word themselves with a way that has a 100 percent lethality rate plus have a fool proof way to enact it without the possibility of anything happening to stop it. But if quantum immortality is in fact real doing so could potentially break time itself.
