A bit of history about these stairs.. Up until 1874, the year in which the carriageway between Capri and Anacapri was completed, the steps represented the only connection between Anacapri and the rest of the world. Anacapri had no wells and the only source of fresh water on the island was the Truglio spring, in the vicinity of the port. As a consequence, the town's womenfolk were obliged to walk down the near 1000 steps and climb back up them (with a heavy vase of water balanced on their heads!), each and every day. In the same way, only this time with the help of donkeys, building material, correspondence and the cumbersome trunks belonging to the first travelers to visit Anacapri were transported up the steps.

You really are amazing. To have walked all the way down those stairs and provided film coverage the whole time. I take my hat off to you. I would love to do that walk, but know I would never make it! Such beautiful scenery, also beautifully presented by you. I love watching your Prowalk Tours, as I feel like I am there.

My friend and I accidentally did this walk, from Marina Grande to Anacapri. “Accidentally” because we were looking for the bus to Anacapri, and kept walking UP! We decided since we had already started and we could not see any roads, it mustn’t be too far. Silly Australians. 😂

Always take care to be safe, but don't let fear prevent you from truly experiencing the wonders that this world has to offer. It looks like there is a lot of people along the walk, so there would always be a kind stranger to assist if you ever felt unsafe. Have a wonderful life!

I must go here! I came across them on the web, and now I absolutely must see them when my wife and I go next year to Sorrento! We'll take the walking down plan after taking a taxi up to the Mt. Solaro chairlift to experience that. Is it far to walk from the chairlift to the beginning of the steps, by the Door of Difference? It doesn't look like it from google maps, but maps can be deceiving sometimes when it comes to distance. And your walking videos have given us the confidence that we don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on a paid tour. We can get around ourselves with your help!
@ProWalks4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ken, yeah, you can definitely get around Capri without being part of a paid tour. A taxi up to the chairlift might cost 20 euro and the bus costs 2 Euro...but the buses can be packed with people and lines can get long. Last time I was there, the line for the bus was so long I just started walking down from Anacapri to Capri. Half way down, a guy on a moped stopped and gave me a ride. :) From the chairlift to the Door of Difference is a 5 minute walk if you don't stop to look around. If you have the time, I would recommend at least two days for Capri. Taking the ferry there and back on the same day makes it about impossible to see both sides of the island. If you have any more questions though, feel free to ask. Glad you enjoyed the videos!
@kensellar4 жыл бұрын
@@ProWalks my wife and I took a lot of taxis while we were in Paris and it didn't break the bank, so we'll grab a taxi to get up there to the chairlift and avoid the long lines for the bus. And on your videos of Capri we saw lots of taxis along the side of the road everywhere waiting for fares, so they seem pretty plentiful. One more question- is English spoken a lot there in the shops and such, and with the taxi drivers as well? We always research our trips, so we'll study some basic Italian phrases, especially of the places we want to see.

@ProWalks4 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry I missed this comment until now. You would like to see some cafe videos from Capri or just in general? I can for sure...but what is it you want to see? A first person view of me going in and ordering something....or a camera filming me going in ordering? I was thinking about going down to Naples to film some videos of different types of shops like pizzerias and pastry shops.

8:19 Is there any significance to the cross etched into the stone? As you come to the bottom of the steps, I notice open squares on the right stone walls. For water drainage? Or could they have been used to protect themselves? In Lincoln, NM there is a torreon, a cylindrical shaped "fortress" built around 1850s to protect the Spanish-Americans from the Apache. The weapons would go through the holes, giving them a chance to protect themselves by the thick walls. If I had my way, we'd just all get along, no hate, no need to use animals for food, fur or hides. I'm a dreamer. 🍃🕊🍃
@kensellar4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I read that centuries ago the local clergy etched the cross in the stone to protect the travellers from falling stones. I believe there are more than one.
