so when ball 1 is released, it stops after the collision and balls 4 and 5 will swing out on the opposite side and travel with half the speed of ball 1?

Maybe it was beyond the the scope of this video, but people might not be aware the contact force of the Newton's Cradle is non-linear. Ref: aapt.scitation.org/doi/pdf/10.1119/1.12936 For spheres, in your code, FAB should be k((mag(rAB-L)**1.5)*norm(rAB) Hertz solved this in 1882, and although we often use the Newton's cradle in demonstrating conservation of energy, Hooke's model of the in-between cases only works if the contact surface is flat. The real test of the simulation is whether n (>1) balls collide, and n balls depart the other side. aapt.scitation.org/doi/pdf/10.1119/1.12407

motion is to the left not to the right and the force is the derivative of the momentum wrt time
