Interesting knot, a kind of prusik knot, more simple than other friction hitches.

That is slick - the second knot. The second knot has no loop already tied in the throw line. Totally beautiful - the methology for tying your throw line close to the end of your climbing rope. I would say I learned something today haha.

I add a couple of half hitches towards the end of the climbing rope so it's not flopping around

Thanks man. I'm super stoked. I got my first saddle, throwline /ball and lanyard for Father's Day and today I ordered 150' of climbing rope and a friction saver.

We throw with loops, and we simply feed a portion of the rope through a loop you make pushing some of the line through the loop at the end of the throw line and cinching it tight, then adding 3 half hitches spaced out all the way to the end of the rope. I've never seen it come loose while running your rope up a tree, and it's both faster and much more simple

What's more, by doing that you reduce the odds of the rope snagging a limb, and making it easier to dislodge, should it actually do so.

Tree Mugs, I have learned a shit ton of trick's from your channel and I really appreciate your vids. You first example is somewhat confusing to me as I don't see the point. If you tie that loop all it requires is putting a pair of fingers in and rolling it back on it'self to from that hitch, I use it all the time to fasten throw bags to the line and it comes right off the bag and ready to go on the rope. FWIW. Thanks

Brad, I think you mean a girth hitch (putting a pair of fingers in and rolling it back on itself). I have had problems with the girth hitch coming off with throwline, that's why I switched to the pile hitch years ago, it's a bit more complex and grips much better, while still being super easy to get off the rope... - Patrick

Patrick, sorry for the stupid question, but what knot did you use to tie the loop in the end of your throw line? thanks!

Lots of options, bowline, figure 8 on a bight, overhand loop, anything bomber will do....
