My pilgrimage was in 1972 and as a student of architecture I visited all of these cathedrals... understanding only later that it was a spiritual pilgrimage as well. These videos are a treasure.

All these cathedrals are beautiful, but I was mightily impressed by Gloucester Cathedral's fan vaulting. I have been to several southern cathedrals like Winchester and Wells, but I have never seen such beautiful ceilings! It's such a wonderful miracle that they, as well as the Great East Window, survived the reformation. I was quite surprised to learn about the earthquake that damaged Lincoln Cathedral. I don't usually associate northern England with earthquakes! I was astonished to learn where the Venerable Bede is buried, Lincoln Cathedral, as well as St. Cuthbert. I'm so glad they were left alone. This is such an excellent program, thank you for posting it!

The fan vaulting at Gloucester is stunning. The Venerable Bede is buried at Durham, as is St. Cuthbert. I've been to all the cathedrals featured in the series.

Thank you for this brilliant series. In my mind, I can imagine the thrill of the awesome beauty at the moment the Bishop elevates Jesus, truly, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament during a Pontifical High Mass in any of our former Cathedrals, especially Lincoln. For the Church and the salvation of souls...❤🙏🙏🙏❤

Thanks for this precious material, I am so sad for division between brothers destroys so beautiful places and offend the heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ. If somebody hate his brother is not christian.

I have greatly enjoyed visiting many of these cathedrals and will have to add Ely. (I travel from Canada annually and always ensure to visit a couple cathedrals. This year included Winchester and St. Albans.) Shame about Henry VIII.

Thank you for this excellent video. I am so tired of watching other videos which are nothing more than drone shots of roofs. Your video is well organized and beautiful. It is a pleasure to see internal shots of buildings (cathedrals)., as the interior of these cathedrals cannot be imagined.

Lovely documentary about Great Britain's cathedrals so beautifully handed down the generations in faith and historically. I love my own cathedral in Lexington, but only built in 1967.

I'm sorry, but the music was far too loud. It was at just the right level in the first episode. Such a shame. Lincoln Cathedral was indeed the tallest building in Europe but it was also the tallest in the world. I was surprised that the famous Lincoln Imp grotesque in the Angel Choir wasn't mentioned.

These are wonderful videos! At the same time, they are sad reminders of the past when England was Catholic, and in full communion with the Holy See. English Catholics, like all Catholics , went on pilgrimage in order to visit and pray at the shrines of the saints asking their intercession. The dissolution of the monasteries under Henry the eighth, and the public destruction of the shrines and relics of the Saints, along with the adoption of the radical errors of protestantism by the founders of the “ new religion” ended any real connection with the pious Catholic devotions of the past. That there are those today, who while still embracing “ the new religion established by law,” wish to recapture Catholic devotions of the past is very admirable indeed. However in the opinion of many , it is too little, and too late.

Great series, I have loved them all. Just a tad disappointed that there was no mention of the Bishop of Durham who, in the last years of the 20th century said that he did not believe in God. A sew days later Durham Cathedral was struck by lightning and the roof severely damaged. Just saying.

It's a question why the King wanted to reform only the church, destroy the invaluable items from historical times but did nothing to end monarchy, let alone "Reform" it.
