Excellent review that encourages me to be adventurous and try a sift-fine nib with a Falcon. Normally I use mainly mediums but a soft-smooth Fine is worth a try.

I would get the metal Falcon so you can use the Con 70 converter. Does Pilot make a purple Falcon with gold indents.

I have two, a red plastic SEF and a black metal SF. Plastic one is lighter but metal one is my favorite/EDC. Nibs are out of this world. CON-40 converter sucks big time, replaced it with an old CON-50. Beside that Falcon is the best pen ever. Adore Iroshizuku ink. I'm a Pilot fan though and biased. Wish you great experience and long use of this pen!

It looks like a Pilot Prera. Will you keep the silver sticker on it? For some reason, alot of Pilot owners keep these silver stickers on their pens. Nice review.

Thanks for your comment. It’s a larger more solid pen than the Prera and the nib is something else! I stuck the sticker on my water bottle :)

I found it to be of premium quality. Wonderful writing. Very well engineered barrel and threads. The only problem I had was my awful handwriting.

I recently (August 2024) bought a Pilot Falcon fountain pen with the soft nib. I have collected and used fountain pens for 20 years. This pen worked for about a month of casual use before the ink ceased to flow through the nib. Then it just failed. There was no damage to the nib - the ink just stopped flowing properly. In my sad experience this was just a piece of junk and do not recommend this at all. I really expected so much more from a Japanese product but... in this case it was a shameful, cheap piece of shame. This is my experience and resulting opinion.

This could be a lemon. Can you exchange for another ? It'll be a shame to dismiss the whole brand, due to 1 negative experience. Or, have you tried cleaning it out, before inking the new pen ? Some say, this is good practice. How about trying a different ink ? Or sending it to a nibmeister to fix the pen ?
