It's kind of idiotic. You can score perfect on three of the four categories, but if you don't do well on the cardio, you may as well go home as it's weighted at 50% on cardio. That's ALL I thought when I got my 20/50 mark at the start (It literally didn't matter if I scored perfectly, I had failed as it's impossible to hit 75 at this point). I scored perfect on flexibility(10/10), push ups (I did ABOVE the max score)(20/20), planking (I did ABOVE the max time)(20/20), but due to asthma I scored 20/50 on the cardio. So... 3 tests at 100% and I failed due to something I can't control (20/20+20/20+10/10+20/50=70 when a passing grade is 75). Meanwhile, I could straight up outsprint any female in my division with ease and would overpower criminals running away where they'd call for back up, but sure! Hire them over more competent cops to hit your gender quota!

Police almost never run 2.4 km on the job. They need to be able to sprint.

If you see the timing, you almost have to sprint to achieve perfect scores

The OPP got rid of the Core Prep ATS test, it's obvious it was a high failure rate with the notorious beep running test. The Prep test first section running over the obstacles pushing and pulling a weight machine and finally carrying the 170 lbs dummy is intense as you are down to 3:20 ( last time I took the test) that one no women I seen passed, out of 4 women none of them passed the first test which you must pass to go to the second test the dreaded stop and go Beep test to Level 7. The OPP gave up on the ATS testing as only a few people were passing. I seen 20 year olds drop on the 3rd level of the beep test as I dropped out at the 5th level at 38 years old lol. Face it physical activities these days are non existent and I road bike, run 10k , run sprints and now at 39 I am in better shape than at 18. The Police services are going to have to stop these tests as eventually there will be NO ONE signing up. All policing services are dropping many of these tests as the modern recruits are not from the 1980's. This is why the Core test was removed. It's 2018 MINDS and a basic fit body is everything you need.

Tommy WizOh You are not understanding why the OPP dropped Ats. Now you take part in the OPP Pin testing for on week at the OPP college. The Pin testing requires a 70% average from all the different running, push-ups, split running , jumps etc. They are actually making it harder not easier. What they are doing though is extending the requirements based on age. They have set marks for the age groups. Example the 1.5 mile run ( 2.4 km ) top time for 20-29 year old is 9:30 minutes and the set mark for 30- 39 year olds is 10:45 . They are now using their PIN testing as a replacement for the ATS test. I think the reason is that Beep test had a high failure rate and anyone who had even an ache on an ankle or toe was screwed as that Beep test is a stop and go test which created havoc on older applicants. Difference bodies Excell at different physical activities. I believe a 30 minute run on a treadmill at 6 mph should be the running PIN test, as 2.4 km does not show endurance. At 39 my average 2.4 km run ( around the roads here) is around 9:20 m which is well bellow the OPP time for a 20-29 year old at 9:30 m . Again some people will run better on a track vs a road. Really they should end this and go to a Treadmill testing phase and set a 30 minute time at 6 mph which is acceptable to test endurance. But then again some would complain it's too much running lol. It is time all Police services use Treadmills to make the running tests as controlled as possible.

Tommy WizOh I always thought why not move all running to a standard treadmill test which would make more sense. Catching and dragging people is taught at the OPP college ( if you get accepted) . To me it's very simple all running moved to a definite 30 minute run at least 6 mph ( which gives you 9:20 for every 2 km) but I can guarantee many would not be able to run that long due to having bigger bodies, which is good for moving heavier weights but not for running straight for 30 minutes. The issue with the bodies ( from what I seen at the ATS test) is that the smaller and lighter bodies were passing at higher numbers but this is not what the OPP wants since obviously you wear a firearm so they don't want to to take in a 120 lbs skinny person who would lose their firearm in 10 seconds . Personally also there was issues with the testing itself as the results were not digitally recorded. This allowed some applicants with dubious results who then got caught at the college physical training part where they could not run 100 feet. I see many OPP officers and to me every 2 years all officers should have to mandatory take the PIN test every 2 years ( it's optional right now). We can not have a Physically fit Police Force if there are no physical testing reviews done after they are hired. Many would not be able to run for 5 minutes ( even without their gear). Hope that the Treadmill will be used soon to see where actual indurance is at in general.
@danfuerthgillis44836 жыл бұрын
Tommy WizOh actually 30 minutes on a treadmill will let you know if you can run, stop and get into your car, then get out again and walk for a while with flashlight while carrying all your gear etc. But again thanks for the comments. As far as surface complaints a treadmill would not be an issue with the tests. The weight added on the ATS test was a 10 lbs bag around the waist and a 10 lbs chest vest so 20 lbs. I am 175 lbs was 185 lbs on the first time I went and even though I was pretty fit I got rocked on the first test as you can not make 2 noises with the weight pull machine, so most people took it slow during that part and of course all failed at that part. Again ATS was not the right test so I applaud the OPP for finally taking responsibility for their own tests.

Males have more upper body strength from testosterone. That's why they have altered the pushups for female recruits!

I'm into Powerlifting and I've seen some strong ass women (example: 500 lb deadlift from a 135 lb woman) but it seems that most aren't overly strong at the bench press. In regards to Policing, it's not just about brute force anymore. I'm sure there are many males who struggle with the fitness component as well.
@TiberiusStorm6 жыл бұрын
Upper body strength is from Testosterone levels being in the male range. There are men with small physiques and women with big broad shoulders. It's a tough call. Perhaps they could make the women do regular pushups but do less of them.
@MrMichaelrobidoux6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like excuses to me. I'm in the military, women do the same push-ups as men, just a bit less of them was required. Now they changed the fitness test, now its all the same for men and women.

@@moyo5509 That's false. The requirements are different based on biological sex differences. The requirements are relative and not in absolute. You think Women have the same equal strength as men? Sure you could name outliers. Sure you could mention how policing should be done by men only because men are stronger, etc. But that just shows why YOU aren't on the force or anything related to a leadership role. You want to know one of the reasons why the police force want women on the force? Because most of the time when confronted by a police women the situation is less stressful. And P.S. do not think for a second women who join the force are weak. They know they are weak. They are reminded constantly. They work hard as hell to try to be equal.
