This is actually a remake of "Pinky Doodle" (1976), but with the newer Steve DePatie and Doug Goodwin music tracks and some newly-animated bits, including a completely reanimated ending.

In another ending ("Pinky Doodle"), he gets trapped beneath the Liberty Bell after it falls on him.

The Pink Panther goes patriotic and back in time to 1776, where he is assigned to warn the townspeople of the arrival of the Redcoats. However, much of the cartoon short is just him grappling with uncooperative horses that seemed malnourished or doesn’t have a clue what’s going on. The animation is good and the music soundtrack is classic. The gags shown in this short are hilarious like of “Pinky Doodle”. All in all, there’s a nice patriotic touch in this cartoon and it gives you the panther’s point-of-view of how the crack got onto the Liberty Bell

I like the original ending with the bell falling on top of Pinky and cracking it just seemed more funny than him running away and then repairing after it cracks

Probably because they thought it would be better to add a scene where Pink finds more than one horse to use, but doesn’t work until he finds the best one.
